Avid, both reels are similar in many ways, the visible difference being less bearings in the Boca, but i dont think thats a biggy, also i dont think the boca has a dual drag in the spool, unlike the Cabo, and also the main gear had gone through a slightly different hardening process apparently ( same material though)....well those are some of the technical differences..

Hey long how does te size compare to a Stella I was thinking of getting one for my oti 40/60 but I want a size comparison.. I'd like something close to a 10k do I need an 80 or a 60??? I'd like to put my hands on one but haven't found one yet..
Your welcome to try mine out if your in my neck of the woods or I can meet up with you one of my trips to my river property / land in Oklahoma.. Antlers area
You can take it on a trip if you got one planned.. They are pretty light.. I would just get the Cabo 80 just in case you decided to use it for jigging or popping etc..

My 80 has too much backplay, very annoying! Last years model not new one. Was thinking about sending it in for repair. Thought it was breaking never thought could be design issue. Thanks for info.
What its back - play ?

My Quantum Boca 80 got broken in on a nice 50 lb +- Aj .

Reel did extremely well , only thing that I noticed it was some small particles of carbon fiber ( I guess ) residue on the spool , right under the drag cap.
I assume that its normal , all in all excellent performance .

Any updates?
Did anybody ave the same line lay issues that Alan mentioned?
A few months back I bought a cabo 50 and it was actually stacking line over the lip of the spool..I took it back and traded for a spinfisher v 4500 , the penn has been flawless thus far. Looking forward to abusing it on tarpon this spring.

Update from our last 56hr Scat cat trip..

My new Cabo80PTS did great.. I landed 10 YFT (30lbs-85lbs) with it and broke off/snapped the line on my first hookup of the trip b/c I had to get used to the drag on it ;-)

BUT, my buddy's New Cabo80 broke on his first YFT while he was jigging.. It just wouldnt spin any more.. I thought it was just him, b/c he was new, but Capt. Russell confirmed the real was toast... He did end up landing the YF thanks to the wonderful crew on the Scat Cat hand-lining it in.

sidenote... I also landed two more yft on Covi's rig.. Thx Covi. ;-)

My Cabo 50 doesn't feel right, the handle screws are starting to give out, and it doesn't reel as smooth. Only been out on 1 trip and catching 7lb triggerfish with it. I was planning on taking it up to Venice and jig for AJ, YFT, and BFT but it definitely is not up to task.
