Hello, I have acquired a Tenryu Yellowtail SK732-50YT that is/was a 2 piece popping rod. I could not remove the 2 halves no matter what I have tried. I have tried to iced at the joint and it did not help. I tried to have another person holding onto the butt section while I try to twist and pull and it did not help. Is there another technique to remove/disconnect stubborn rod pieces without damaging them?

If you aren’t the original owner Make sure it hasn’t been glued together to make it a one piece. What worked for me once was using a hair dryer to heat up the outside part of the Ferrell. Try twisting the top of the rod while heating the outside of the Ferrell with caution not to hot for two long.

get a cheap tire inner tube from walmart and wrap the base of the top section to increase the diameter of the part you grip it will increase the torque you are able to put on that section and improve your grip. do that after you ice just the top section (sandwich between ice packs that cool well below 32 deg, not regular ice).

I have had this problem numerous times, both at home and on fishing trips. My solution is as follows:
1) For really bad ones: At the junction, put some dry ice in a baggy and place it on the rod side. Then take the hair dryer on the foam handle side. Pull and twist to unlock.
2) For medium stuck: Get one of these and twist and pull https://www.ebbtidetackle.com/rod-gripper/ . They work great while on trips as well.
3) Cheaper alternative for medium stuck, get a piece of these to grip the two halves https://www.amazon.com/Duck-Select-..._1_5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1544574295&sr=1-5&keywords=non-slip+drawer+liner
