do we have a doctor or dermatologist in here ?

I had an infection of the right thumb 2 weeks ago (paronychia, cuticle area)
[yank a hangnail off, then scratched the top of the thumb near cuticle real
bad but forgot to put neosporin on it , infection started 2 days later with pus]

Was on Augmentin for 10 days (last day Sept 19). Infection has gone
away but I notice my eponychium (cuticle area) has receded about 1/4"

is this normal after an infection? and I am just a worry nut
or should I go see a dermatologist ?

would love to hear your advices, experiences

If you can spell "eponychium" you know more about the subject than anyone else

:D :D

Yes , IME normal

cuticle grows back slower than nail growth rate. typically does grow back to its normal position ( or close to )
Can accentuate a ridge down the nail surface at the infection site for the rest of your life.

In another 2 weeks you will have forgotten what the original was like ;)

( the responder is not a doctor, just someone who has had numerous damaged fingers that got infected cuticle areas).

my guess is #1.
I get 'em all the time on my toe. Ingrown nail (no, I don't know the fancy
latin doctor-speak)
Process is as follows:
Wipe off pocket knife, dig out nail, cut off flush.
if it bleeds, pour alcohol on it till it gets numb, slather a little neo on it
good to go. I have to do this once a month. last infection- 4 years ago.
what did I do? opened it up, squeezed it, pour alcohol on it till.......

NO DOCTOR HERE but...I almost just lost my left pointer finger from a bad fish spine in the tendon sheath from a deep water yelloweye, got infected bad, swelled then decided to go into urgent care and let PA carve on it 2x. Not the best choice and would not reccommend to others.....after had to see a hand surgeon and after hand shake promise I would not do the ugent care thing again he fixed the finger. Doc was a cool guy and turned out to be the Hand guy for the OSU beavers. If it is anything like mine might want to put a warning on the post before the pics. Mine scared the x ray tech, LOL.... Hope you get better soon. Soaking in warm epsom salt and small soaks in hydrogen peroxide worked well along with antibiotics so strong I did not function for 10 days. The problem is finding what bacteria it is for the RX. Request a swab so they can find out what anti is best suited for the job. Hope you heal up soon.
