Digging Steamers when tuna fishing is slow.

I opted for giant though they catch lots of small bluefin south of Martha's Vineyard yesterday. Condition was right and we drifted among whalers, but tuna didn't cooperate.

On the way, Adam suggested to dig steamers. Why not. It was fun to dig steamers. When I fished striped bass on pugs in Monomoy Island about 25 years ago, I found there were lots of steamers in low tide. I didn't know I would have a chance to dig steamers there again. Thanks Adam for the new adventure. --------------- www.jignpop.com www.jignpopforum.com www.blackholeUSA.com

Had my first steamers a month back in Boston..had no real idea what I was ordering, they came with a lobster platter. I was very impressed, tasty things even if not the prettiest food I've eaten
Hopefully someone showed you to pull the black skin off the meat first.

Steamers are also served deep fried in batter,
try these next time you are in area.

Steamers are very tasty where ever you eat, but Monomoy steamers are the best.
We plan to eat steamers and other seafood at Anthony's Seafood Restaurant near Newport, RI after fishing on the Frances in Point Judith, RI tomorrow. The Anthony's is my favorite seafood restaurant.

I will...nobody showed me the skinning trick, as I was with a bunch of fellow Brits who also had no clue lol...it went down as it was and very nice it was too

Do a search on youtube for cleaning or eating soft shell clams,
you will see how to pull off that black skin,
which is not very appetizing.
If you liked them with this skin,
you will love them without the skin,
as you can appreciate their sweet taste better.

Next time also try them fried in a sandwich, magical.
Often called Ipswich clam sandwich

Crabbing in Tofino.
We fished two days in Tofino. Day one we caught plenty of chinook, coho and medium halibut. Day 2 we were heading offshore to deeper water for big lingcod when the wind came up.
Instead of toughing out the snotty seas we headed inshore and netted up a bunch of big dungeness crab. We caught about 12 keepers and threw back dozens in less than an hour.
My boys had a blast pulling up the net and man were they delicious!

I miss salmon fishing as well as dungeness crab and prawn in British Columbia.
I fished several areas in Vancouver Island, Prince Ruppert, Rivers Inlet as well as Langara Island off Queen Charlotte Island.
King salmon fishing was so good in Langara Island that I visited there 6 years in a row.
British Columbia is pristine beautiful country and I hope I visit there again.
