Sorry if this has been covered already. Since SPJ rods have that long, thin, unwrapped butt section, I was wondering if anyone wraps that part with friction tape or anything to protect it when it’s in the rods holder. I’ve heard that it’s a good idea to put a jig wrap or something around the blank to hold the rod more securely in the rod holder. But does anyone wrap that section?
Thanks, Bob

The best butt protectors for SPJ rods are not permanent. The permanent protectors seem to get in the way. I have a few of the split foam like you pictured. But the one I like best are the spiral plastic ones. They can stay on while fishing and do not get in the way. Easy to remove when cleaning. Plastic so easier to clean than the foam type. Comes in 1 meter lengths so they can be custom fit to wrap the entire butt section for total protection without the added bulk or weight. I don’t remember who I purchased them from overseas a couple of years ago but I am glad I did.
