Yes those are rainbow runners. We heard they were good to eat so we kept them. Not sure if they are good or not though. I only took home the tuna.

Looks like you had a great trip. What jigs did you use and how were you fishing them ? We just have luck with the blackfin on jigs out there . Mel Glass
The rainbow runner is good table fair. Coon Ass platform cooks used to fix them up fried and we would eat them as part of the regular Friday night sea food dinnner. But back in the Day the fish came fried and the shrimp where boiled. On some platforms\drill rigs the cooks would say "Don't catch no more fish we got plenty coming with the groeceries on the supply boat" I would not want to have someone to take me wrong but I would think the rainbow runner as like a long second to dorado if that makes sense. The rod that caught most of the fish was a bass pro rod. We caught 5 of the tuna on chunk blue runners and 2 on live. I also broke off with one on chunks. melglass, We did not use jigs and did not catch any blackfins. The rig we fished was Medussa.
My lottery bid is... [email protected] 65+ [email protected]+ [email protected]+ snapper 7+ Thanks for the photos.
Top pictures, looked like you had a ball. How far did you have to travel from the boat ramp to your spot.
Average size was 40 with one reaching 46. I believe it is 80 miles to Medusa from the Venice ramp. 22 of that is the river.
