I got an update from Minnow this afternooon, he, Mcgolfer and Frank were suppose to fish the Lump this weekend but with the bite on the hill being off they went to Devil's tower instead and boxed 13 YFT (he said nothing of any size) and some other things -- we had a bad connection so we were not able to talk very long. He said the highlight was watching Mcgolfer get spooled on a Stella 20K by a big YFT on a popper.

They're driving back tonight so hopefully he'll fill in the details tomorrow.

Spooled on a stella 20000! Man, that would be a site. I would of loved to seen a picture of McGolfer with that fish.

i'd think the rod would give way before the reel!

i've never been completely spooled, but for those that have....

is there a point where you're like "sh!t, this things not stopping, maybe I should just cut it and save some line" - or do you just let it go to the bitter end?

I've been spooled on a Tiagra 130 using 50 pounds of drag. It only takes about 30 seconds so thinking about cutting the line isn't an option. Just holding on the rig is painful enough. Waiting for big POP and not loosing your gear was my concern. Some fish are just to mean to be stopped.

In the Gulf? If so it must have been a Giant Bluefin, I couldnt imagine a grander spooling a Tiagra 130 with a good angler attached

hang tight boys, stella 20Ks may be on the forsale forum soon. i need one cheap :) ususally you're hoping for a miracle and willing to take the risk of losing all the line for a chance to fight the fish of a life time. i've had fish turn when the metal on my spool was already visible. i'm glad he didnt toss that junk reel over board :)

I heard that there are not that many Stella 20K's left for sale....something like ten of them left from Shimano. I think Bellyup knows the facts.....

Shimano has only 9 Stella 20Ks left at the factory. I bought number 10. Once these 9 are gone, you will only be able to purchase a new 2007 stella from what is left on store shelves as there will be none to replace those sold. At lease this is what Roys in Corpus told me.

Grescobia when did you catch that YFT, sweet looking fish

Gres got that fish on the lump in 04 I believe. Maybe 05. It went 181lbs and it is a beautiful fish.

Now, where is the full report and photos? I am with wacker. There is no place like home, there is no place like home, there is no place like home. Maybe if I keep this up I will end up at the floaters.

Gman, no doubt Stella have plenty of drag but the reel was spooled with 60lb spectra.

How much drag can you really use before the line part?
I think that fish just not mean to be caught with spinning outfit.
Full report with pictures and video will be up soon.
