I really, really need some cold weather and the rut to kick in...this is rediculous. My cameras are just taunting me with photos of vampire deer. Nothing and I mean nothing moves during the day...grrrrrr...

The processor in Graham where I took Kyle's forkhorn (turned it around all ready so that shows how slow things are) told me today when I picked it up they've had 170 deer checked in, last year at this time they had over 400. Here's hoping the rut starts next weekend in Young County 'cause it shure hasn't yet...

Damn Vampire deer...I suppose it could be worse, I could have nothing showing up on the cameras too. At least I know they are around. The damn 10 pointer came out 15 minutes before shooting time on Friday so he's getting closer.

Hell, even my stinking hog won't come out during the day!

wonder if you can track thier movements according to moon phase? if that has any relation into what time they will move? maybe a check of a common variable in the time frame/moon phase in your game cam pics...????

Well I'm beginning to think...No.

Common belief is that during the period of little to no moon, deer don't move at night that they are more active during the day.

All one has to do is look at the sample photos above to see that ain't necessarily so.

Yes, I'd love to have that 10 on my wall if he'll just get stupid on me :) I'm hoping the rut gets started this weekend. I can hunt the first part of Thanksgiving weekend but have to head down to the inlaws in Portland for Thanksgiving so won't get to hunt that weekend.

Oooh, Damn! I forgot to remind the wife to call in and arrange for doggie hotel for our two monsters (80lb german shepherds). Taking them to the inlaws is out of the question as MIL don't like dogs much less small horses....so, crap I'm so despondent...instead of going to the in laws for turkey day I have to go hunting....crap, I feel so bad...

:) Bret, don't you dare show Cheryl this post!

With a little luck I'll actually convince Mom & Dad to come to our place for turkey day as we'll be going to the inlaws for Xmas now. That would be sweet as I can take Dad out to the lease and get some more stand time in with him. I haven't had the opportunity to do that since he quit hunting 6 years ago. Only wish the stands were big enough for Kyle too. Will just have to swap out who gets to sit with grandpa I guess.

Yep I'm hoping it is starting up this weekend, we shall see. The moon phase is all wrong but they'll be too loopey due to the hormones to care. Besides, as my photos show they feed at night when there is no moon anyways...damn vampire deer.

This place definitely has a pretty equitable buck to do ratio. If it isn't one to one it's darn close. There will have to be some chasing and fighting going on...
