DALLAS — Carroll Shelby, the legendary car designer and champion auto racer who built the fabled Shelby Cobra sports car and injected testosterone into Ford's Mustang and Chrysler's Viper, has died. He was 89.

Shelby's company, Carroll Shelby International, said Friday that Shelby died the night before at a Dallas hospital. Doctors have not released a cause of death.

I'm guessing old age. But that's just a guess.

I live here in DFW. bummed is a pretty good word.
devoted my working life to cars & hot rods, I really wanted to meet him someday.
an absolute Icon of my industry, & the world's longest living heart transplant recipient!
I have worked on more than a few CSX vehicles, incuding an original '63 239 ci Bristol roadster, (the predecessor to the cobra), and extensively on an original 66 cobra daytona coupe. So many mustangs, incl. gt-350 # 108, 141. Never got to meet the man.
Like I said, Bummer day, but I'll celebrate the life of a Texas/American legend.
