I am looking at the HR Tokayo SJ3 SG that has the limited run of 100 per power. Anyone fish these rods and/or could compare them to the SJlll S? They are shorter (especially the power 3) than other Slow Jiggers and want to know outside of Youtube videos, how they actually fish and feel. Appreciate any insight as well.

They did mention that the sweet spot for each power is:
Power 1: Max 340g, sweet spot 40-210g
Power 2: Max 500g, sweet spot 210-340g
Power 3: Max 800g, sweet spot 250-500g

Hey FIshBone you got my attention! I love the HR rods! I own at least one of every generation, and many doubles, except for the SG. The only reason I don’t own an SG is the gold on gold color. It’s just too much gold for me. Their blanks are super strong, light, with plenty of backbone. My two favorites are the “S” and the original III series. The “R” are great blanks but the guides are superior on the S and III. The SE is another awesome rod with great components, but they’re a little short for my liking. I feel their jig rating are right on target especially with their jigs. IMO any Hearty Rise SPJ rod is one of the best rods off the rack.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback. I tend to go with the flashy type of rods. I ended up going with all 3 powers .... thats after watching their videos for a few years now, I decided to give this company a try. I am pairing them with Studio Ocean Marks japanz 30P for the power1, and I have the green with gold trim 30P, 50H reels for the power 2 and 3 respectively. Based on the conversation I had with Aka, power 3 will suit the best for my tilefishing between 450-750ft. We usually need jigs between the 300-400g. Even though the power 2 has a max of 500g, he mentioned the sweet spot is 210-340g. Originally I got the 1 and 2 power, but bought the 3 for good measure.

Great! You won’t be disappointed. I picked Aka’s brain many nights. He’s a great guy and doesn’t mind explaining the pros and cons.

I received all 3 rods today. They look gorgeous! Can't wait til spring time to put them to use this season. The power 3 is short as I expected. In the past, all my SPJ rods have been above 6'. My most recent rods were 6'10 shimano ocea jigger infinity motive rods (which I just sold). The SG power 1 is the same length as the S, but then goes shorter which is similar as the SE's. I saw that you do have an SE. Which power do you own and do you find that the short length makes it challenging to fish it or just prefer longer SPJ rods? The only short jigging rod that I own is on a spinner set up for speed jigging YFT. I have no issue with it, but its definitely a rod easier to fish in the back of the boat vs the bow (on a CC). The big caps on some boats I am on make it challenging.

I own powers “0” to “3”. The only short rod is SE, unfortunately I haven’t used it yet. I always grab the IIIS, power 1 and 2 for most of my fishing. How does the gold on gold look and what serial #’s did you get.

They all have 1 of 100…. So you have to take them on their word its limited to 100 rods each power. Gold on gold is nice. I will try to get some pics tomorrow… rods are hard to take pics of (well to get the whole thing)

Ahhh… so not a real serial number. Yes trying to put up rod pics when selling is a pain. Usually get the important shots. Butt, seat, stripper guide, tip and specs.

Benny
Yea totally agree with the selling part. It’s weird theres no real serial, but I do not think they will steer you wrong and is honest about it being a limited edition. Probably saved in production costs to have 300 of the same thing.

I'm kind of thinking that Hearty Rise is always looking over the horizon when it comes to rods. Staying on top of current technology may be the reason that their top shelf rods are usually limited production runs. The feed back from the current generation is used to refine materials and production.

Sweet!!! I wish they have a standard finish color on the guides. The only thing I don’t like about the SG are the gold guides. I like color on my rods but the gold guides are just too much. Having the other models and powers I couldn’t justify spending the cash for something I didn’t like the look of. If the guides were any of the other standard finishes, titanium, chrome, nickel, etc, I’m sure there would be one maybe two on my rack. I know you’re going to have a blast fishing them. Wait till the bending starts and the rods just want more.

Hello, Do you have tokayo S series too? Do you think the blank between tokayo S and tokayo SG really different? Because if i look on the website both of them using the same nanocarbon blank with the same carbon percentage and having the same feature tvs, even tokayo S have more feature (double helix wrapping). Do you think it really worth the price compared to buying tokayo S? Thank you!

I have the III, R, S, and SG my favorite is the S. Length, balance, and overall feel is perfect for me. I still like the others but I own more S’s than the others. Even own doubles in a couple of powers in the S. If you can find an S model I would buy it over the SG. Haven’t tried the new SE.

HI Benny. Can you explain any perceived difference between the IIIS and IIIR?

Thanks for your feedback! How about the lifting power and the blank technology ? Could you find any difference between S and SG?

The biggest difference are the components. The S has top of the line super light components. Not that there was a weight difference you can feel holding. I feel the R has a slightly stiffer action, not at all to stiff just a touch over the S.
