    The right to bear arms

Please vote this gun issue question with USA Today.

It will only take a few seconds of your time.

Then pass the link on to all the pro gun folks you know.

Hopefully these results will be published later this month.

This upcoming year will become critical for gun owners with

the Supreme Court accepting the District of Columbia case

against the right for individuals to bear arms.

We need to keep running the numbers up.

First - vote on this one.

Second - launch it to other folks so they can vote.

Then we will see if the results get published.

To vote in the USA Today poll, click on the link below.

Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms?

    YES Vote here:
Note: you can vote more than one time.:D

MrBill: I certainly do agree that it can't hurt to show our colors on this and any other such site, however, a couple of points:

First, I really don't think the Supreme Court gives a rats ass how the people feel. They are appointed for life, and although, as a peon, I have never known any of the justices, I have known a surprising number of people who clerked on the Court, and have done a significant amount of reading about their processes. And you cannot imagine how isolated they are and how focused on legal argument and analysis. Nor can a President who appoints a justice figure out how he or she is going to lean once on the bench. Perhaps the best example of this is Souter, who was appointed by George H.W. Bush--and turned out to be one of the most liberal-leaning justices in history. Go figure.

What all this is leading to is that it is my belief that there are two main avenues for action--first join the NRA. They have pissed me off on some issues, but they are the cutting edge and always have been, in defense of the Second Ammendment. Second--put pressure on your representatives and senators, both in Congress and in your state legislature.

Politicians are whores for votes and will spread 'em in a heartbeat for a sizeable number of people who put pressure on them. I happen to live in the People's Republic of Austin--a city which used to be about as redneck as you can get but which has been transformed into by immigrants from Massachusetts and California into a little version of San Francisco--so my legislators have already bent over for the liberals.

Unfortunately, that's why someone can claim the results are "skewed" and unscientific. However, I'll guarantee you this--the majority, no matter how they vote this year, are still pro-gun to some extent.
