What a trip, this is one of the best group to fish with.
First picture front left is John, Al, third and forth person I am not sure (please identify your self), and the fifth is Mont. On the right side is Jerry, Dave, Jerry's dad, Allen, Capt.Frank.

Second picture is Rue, deck hand that got hooked in the face ( I am so sorry can't remmember his name), also another deckhand again I can't remmember his name.

Third picture is Tom Salazar.

Great Pics Tj. Glad Yall caught a bunch of fish... I agree with Rick, I dont think that you will be able to go offshore without Rue anymore...LOL. Is anyone going to post a full report???
What kind of spinning reel was she using? what size line was on it? Thats some nice fish.
Rick,
DBG did great, I think he got his limit of yft.
Rue is hooked to offshore fishing for real. She was saying " I want to catch some dorado " LOL

SSfiremsn,
Rue was using Rick's Daiwa Saltiga spinner
It was great to meet you TJ...you are a first class fisherman! I agree...this was a great group of fishermen. I'm looking forward to fishing with you again. Thanks for the pics!
Rick,

I did o.k., got my limit of YFT but I have this morbid fantasy about catching a 50-70lb YFT on my Avet SX reel and a popper. Had three really good hookups with two of the fish actually at color waiting on the gaff, only to have one burned off by another fish, and then the one most likely to get in the boat I lost to the anchor pulpit when I lost the light and couldn't keep track of my line. Awesome fights!! For me, it's the losses that are more memorable than the ones in the box. I'll be ready in October to make the SX fantasy work.

Something interesting about this trip is the number of blowups that didn't result in solid hookups. Countless times, up on the bow, we would have a big YFT on for about 5-7 seconds, thrashing, running, splashing, and then just let go. Hooks on the poppers looked sharp, not bent, but still not hooking up solidly. We called those YFT "Rodeo Tuna". Get them to blow up, and then try to hold on for more than 7 seconds!! Awesome fishing.

Not sure how you can beat a trip like this, awesome in most every way. Extremely great people to fish with, all very friendly and easy to get along with. Tangles? Not many on this trip, some, but not a bunch.

More later.

Great pictures TJ. It looks and sounds like an epic fishing trip.
Minnow,
First off, how was your vacation. One month off, that must be nice. Then you get home and go fishing. What a life. I'm jealous.

Glad to see your wife likes to fish. I always like having a woman on the boat, it keeps me in line. Have you taught her how to properly gaff a fish? If not, that should be her next learning experience. Be patient, women don't like receiving commands when they are learning to head gaff. Believe me, nobody knows that more than me.

Some questions for you.
1) Is there enough rod holders for 40 people? Is there a limit on rods?
2) Can everybody bring a 162 Qt cooler on board?
3) Where do you store all your tackle boxes? Is there a limit on tackle?
4) Where do you store all your beverages? I consume about 48 per day.
5) What was successful as far as lures and jigs?
6) How many rods snapped?

Looks like you guys and gals had a wonderful time. That's what fishing is all about. Loosing site of land and getting into the gulf stream is why God put us on earth.

Gunsmoke,
Vacation plus business trip was great, LOL.
Minnow,

Some questions for you.
1) Is there enough rod holders for 40 people? Is there a limit on rods?
There are 90 rod holders on that boat, on our trip all of them was taken.
2) Can everybody bring a 162 Qt cooler on board?
I am not sure you can do that on party boat, if it's a charter trip the
answer is yes.
3) Where do you store all your tackle boxes? Is there a limit on tackle?
up stair under the bench seat, and no limit on tackle LOL. Just don't bring
all your tackle with you, it might slow down the cruising speed by 10 knots.
4) Where do you store all your beverages? I consume about 48 per day.
Beverages can be store on the upper deck as well, 48 per day? are you a
camel? lol j/k.
5) What was successful as far as lures and jigs?
On this trip, I would say 90% of the yft ware caught on poppers, very few
were caught on jigs.
6) How many rods snapped?
None, that I know off.

Looks like you guys and gals had a wonderful time. That's what fishing is all about. Loosing site of land and getting into the gulf stream is why God put us on earth.

TJ,

Please edit your post and add captions. I would love to put names with faces.
I know many of them through their posts but can not identify them if I saw them in public. Screen names would be fine. Thanks.

QUOTE]

It's true. Smoker has a rule on his boat. The boat will not depart unless there are at least 2 cases of some kind of fluid per person per day. (Not including beer trading cases). I probably go over my limit each trip. I pack 3 cases. It's not a bad rule. I won't get on anybodies boat without following the "Rule of Fluids".

Nothing worse than taking can inventory at 2PM and find out you are on an allowance. We sweat a lot. I can't believe that 40 people didn't pop a single rod on your trip. That's incredible. Appears it was a fun trip.
I agree on the beverage numbers. 48 is more than adequate for oneself and whomever has not properly prepared for the trip. Rations are for LOST AT SEA. We don't wanna go there. Heck fire, I would rather have too few rod holders... LOL that's a totally seperate sin to commit.
YOU CANNOT HAVE ENOUGH HOLDERS.

that will hold my jigging rods now where do i put my trolling rods? next my amberjack rigs? my electric reels? kite rods? bait rigs?
...lol..

i do like gunsmokes ideas for adding rod holders. he seems to put a lot of thought into his projects. some day i hope to join him on an offshore adventure....rick
That center console has a total of 24 rod holders. None of them horzontial. I must say, that if there is a center console in the GOM that has put more fish in the box than that boat, I would be in shock. I've seen over one thousand pounds in it many times.
WOW, I remember making that rocket launcher. That was 1/2" aluminum plate drilled at an angle. When did you take that pic? Smoke2 has had its share of fish from the gulf. Remember right after I bought that boat, we caught 117 kingfish in one day for the fireman's fund raiser dinner. No wonder they have limits now.

I have in my will that I am to be buried in that boat. My wife doesn't like the idea because she says I nailed to many women in it in the old days.I love that boat. Do you have any more clicks?
