I ordered 7' Superseeker 2X4 blank to check as the rod/blank are very popular on long range boats out of San Diego for cow fishing.
The blank arrived today and I was shocked the weight of the blank alone 18 oz !! It seems the fishermen there really don't care about the weights of rods as they use heavy reels like 50 for cow.
The tip section is relative thin and flexible similar to blanks rated to 80 lbs to cast live bait away from the boat while the butt section is thick like telephone pole.
Apparently the rod is designed for railing when fighting big cow.
I like to see whether it is possible to make similar blanks with much lighter weight and more strength by using 'new carbon' materials.

I think the new seeker Hercules blanks are supposed to be a lot more like the rods we like.
Yes, you are right.
Billy40 did a great job to work with the rod designer of Seeker.
Hercules 60H/60XH weighs only about 6 oz.

the calstars the guys are using are a little lighter weight thank the SSeeker.
and they are good enough to get the job done.

i looked at the 2X4 but decided to go calstar because of the weight.

it seems if you are using the rail weight isnt really that big of a deal.
but
it is nice to have a light setup.

I loved Seeker's Black Steel rods for tuna bait fishing. The Black Steel rods are pretty light. I thought Superseeker 2X4 is a relatively light blank.
But Superseeker 2x4 must be very popular as I had hard time to get one.

I have one of the Hercules (custom spiral from Taz575), super light, great action for jigs.

I heard about this 2x4 blank. I guess it is true to its name!!

The 2 X 4 name comes from having XXH tip and XXXXH butt.
