Just got my oti 7ft spinning rod for this reel and it looks and feels fantastic.

However, I can't seem to get the stella to lay line evenly. Most of the line forms at the back of the spool. I checked the manual and it says to remove washers to get more line towards the front. Well there is plastic piece that is resting on top of the other washers that I cant get off with fear of breaking it. I dont want to break anything which is why I'm asking you guys for help. Can anyone help me out? I know its probably something stupid. But dont want a 700$ useless reel either.

Thanks

Hey lineblaster!

Anytime I have line laying unevenly -while I'm spooling a spinner- it's cause is normally the connecting knot combined with the vet wrap not being as level as the spool.

If I'm careful to make sure that my knot/bottom wrap are fairly level around the arbor, the line lays evenly.

I have the same problem with my 20K, but not with the 8K. I had not thought about the knot as being part of the problem since it lies so very deep down in the spool. Another issue I thought might be involved is that when winding the line on, the pressure I apply is very uneven, but I would think that would affect the whole width of the spool more or less randomly.

Oh yes, and my Twinspin 30, which is supposed to be so much less polished and smooth than the Shimano, has no such problem. :)

Well I tried removing 2 washers from the way it came from the factory and it still loads mostly to the back of the spool. So, it has to be the knot and how its wrapping on top of it.

Which kind of knot should I be using? Im using 30lb mono btw. Thanks

Hey lineblaster!

Mind if I ask why you're only using 30# mono on a Stella 20K?

If you set your drags correctly for 30#, you'll only be using 9#'s of that reel's huge drag capability.

If you're using 30# for line capacity, make the move to 65# spectra, then use a 30# to 100# leader or longer mono topshot.

Anyway, check out the sticky thread that lists "knot sites". You'll find diagrams for many knots to attach line to a reel.

Hi Ragman,

I'm using 30# mono for just this weekend. I will be fishing for tarpon around a bridge from the shoreline. Its just to costly to use spectra in this situation. Because they do run towards the bridge and cut you off. Its much cheaper to just have mono on hand to refill your line if you lose a bunch against the piling. And besides that if you put to much pressure on the tarpon with the spectra your hook gets thrown more often than not.

Thanks for the help I will check out knot sites.

Oh the rod looks and feels fantastic. Good job on them! Will let you know how the rods does against monster tarpon.
