Did some BFT jigging around 2008, i love it, and thinking of expanding my jigging and popping style fishing more deeply. looking for some advice on my following choices.

1. Jigging: Shimano stella 20000SW USA model.
2. Popping: Shimano stella 180000SW USA model.

What do you guys think about my choices?? open suggestion on my choices.thanks:) :) :)

if youre looking at the new models i think the stella 10000sw is a great popping reel as its light and holds a lot of line. it holds what the 10000FA does and is the weight of the 8000FA.

if bluefin are in the 100-150 range as they were in 2008 then 10000SW is better i think but if they are bigger then the 18000 will likely be better.

Can 10000SW accept 18000SW spool????

I believe they are different sizes, so 10k SW spool won't fit the 18k reel.

Looks like the jigging reel will definitely be the stella 20000sw. however, i do have a hard time to decided the 18000 or 10000?? since I might use it for other topwater action fishing besides bft at MA. What will you guys decided if this is a one time purchase scenario. thank you.:)

It's really what you are targeting and what you're more comfortable holding all day long. The 18kSW is approx 6 ounces more than the 10kSW, if you can swing that thing all day for top water/sub surface lures comfortably and/or you are targeting some giant BFT, then get the 18kSW. Personally, I feel more comfortable working top water lures with a more moderately sized reel like the 10kSW, so I got that instead of the 18kSW. If you get a chance, go look at one. Bring your popping rod you're gonna be using with you so you can get a good feel of the thing before you make up your mind. Either way you go, you're buying into some awesome equipment. Good luck!

BTW, Diawa Saltiga Dogfight (if you can find a good deal on them, saw some really nice prices for them on Ebay over the holidays) is an excellent alternative to the 18kSW. They are built like a tank and that black color is super sexy. :D
