Im about to drop the hammer on the new tallica which im gonna use for Montauk cod, bass/blues, offshore seabass and am not sure what model. Im gonna fish 50lb suffix and have narrowed it down to the 8 or 10. I see the weight differance is minimal, has anyone seen the 8 and 10 first hand?

    Below are the specs :

    Shimano Talica TAC8II Reel 18.2 oz. 20.0 lb. 13.0 lb. 38" 25 6.2:1 4.1:1 $479.99
    Line Capacity - Mono: 280 yds./15 lb., 200 yds./20 lb., 185 yds./25 lb.
    Line Capacity - Braid: 235 yds./65 lb.

    226381 Shimano Talica TAC10II Reel 18.6 oz. 20.0 lb. 13.0 lb. 38" 25 6.2:1 4.1:1 $479.99
    Line Capacity - Mono: 380 yds./15 lb., 270 yds./20 lb., 215 yds./25 lb.
    Line Capacity - Braid: 540 yds./40 lb., 535 yds./50 lb., 335 yds./65 lb.

    226382 Shimano Talica TAC12II Reel 25.7 oz. 40.0 lb. 22.0 lb. 41" 22 5.7:1 3.1:1 $499.99
    Line Capacity - Mono: 250 yds./20 lb., 280 yds./25 lb., 230 yds./30 lb.
    Line Capacity - Braid: 700 yds./50 lb., 400 yds./65 lb., 355 yds./80 lb.

What do you think? Thanks in advance

Brand spanker tho & not on the water yet. ( waiting on PE )..........intending to load it with 55# .

I've been thinking about the Talica 16 for Tuna, but am a little apprehensive due to the lack of reports.

Yes me too, thats part of my reason for buying a 8 or 10 to try it inshore before having a problem offshore. Hope that made sense.

Like I said I never held one and being im not a fan of the "geary/rough" feeling of avets the raptor is out so im hoping this tallica will do the trick.

Does anyone know a shop owner who can get me actual weight of the 8 and 10?

bought one for east coast(where i need a decent amount of line) jigging. Loaded it with 110lb JB hollow(took 300yd) :) its my tuna jigger. Now i just have to get my JM acid wrap from Paul and it will have a home.

I have a Talica 16II which I use here in NZ for jigging yellow tail, it is very smooth, hold 550 meters of 80lb whiplash pro. I have managed to snaffle a few fish so far with it and it has performed faultlessly. I have had a custom arm handle made of 316 stainless steel which is 118mm long

    Sweet reel!

Side note- I own a Raptor SX. Great reel. Rough feel when cranking (like all Avets). Handled AJ's to 50lbs. Not sure I would put it up against 50+ lb tuna. Squeezed 300yds 65# Power Pro, with a short 80# flouro topshot.

Yeah I know what you mean, I wish they would do something differant to eliminate that

We fish bluefin for months up here in new england and never need to go any heavier than 60 (maybe, if you have large capacity reel) 80 lb jerry brown hollow. It tests much higher and I even run 80lb JB hollow on tiagra 30w reels for trolling, no problems whatsoever. I wouldn;t go any higher than 80, would stay at 60....and nothing near 110 on these reels.

The Tallica 16 holds 550 yards 60lb hollow spectra with short wind-on. Today I spooled one with 400 yards 60lb hollow and 100 yards 40lb .60mm Sufix.

Just received my 8 picked it up for a great pirce, my initial opinions well first off im very disappointed as to how "rough" it feels. Dont get me wrong its better than Avet but I figured this would have felt more like a torsa or atleast better then an Accurate. Is there any reason why I dont even have 10 seconds of freespool?

Let me ask another question? I see the 8 and 10 weigh less than an ounce differant. Are they the same size but differant spools? Or do they have differant frames?

Thanks I over looked that pic, so im assuming the advertised weight differance is BS! So that means the 12 and 16 use differant frames as well? You think you need the 16 for jigging tuna or is the 12 just fine?
