I have one of the brand new ones that Andrew got as a replacement...
It's a nice lower price option. But I don't particularly like the following:
- Went longer (6') instead of shorter like most other options out there.
- Soft, spongy grips
- Hook holder that snags line
- Finish is too thin... Rod label is not completely bedded in, thread on several of the wraps can be felt, and the guides wiggle. (One more decent coat of epoxy could have corrected most of this. Almost like they missed the final step?)
Yeah... Couldn't find any good fish pix on my laptop! It's a '69 SS w/ crate 502, 18" wheels, 4-wh disks, coil overs front, hotchkis o/s sway bars, power rack and pinion, Strange 60 w/3.73 posi rear, etc, etc, etc.......
No. Some of the bolt-ons, but none of the fabrication/heavy lifting. (There's a lot of custom fab work under the car.) A friend who is also a muscle car fanatic hooked me up with a local guy who did all of it. He used to build and race drag cars as a hobby and basically sold his business out west and retired in AL... Now he has a performance shop to stay busy, and only takes on projects that he wants to do.

well thats not good. I was about to contact them for a 600 gram spinning rod for jiggin. Cant afford to have "cheap" cost me a fish that might be the biggest in my life.

I definately wasn't crazy about the 400g but thats me
400gram was a good rod for the money, but wasnt suitable to stop yellowfin on my last trip. i ended up handing the combo to the deckhand and told him I didnt care if he broke it or not in order to get the fish. i put it up and only pulled it back out to catch some blackfin tuna.
fish ran uncontrollably into the rig chains and line chaffed and POP. after this incident, I understood how viably important a rod was to controlling a fish.

How would that rod do in stopping grouper from holing you or mid range ajs from wrecking you?
The 400g (more like 250-300gm if you ask me) is the one I had with the 8000 Stradic last week... It's a great 30-60lb mid-sized rig. But targeting big grouper or tuna with it would be a mistake, especially near structure. The 600gm has always had a big following for that duty...
I like the rod, but some thing could be tweeked a little IMHO.
I just got off the phone with Freddy and he said he can't make it tomorrow. He had it planned all week. What a bummer. I was looking forward to fishing with him again.
