Looking for a rod to pull AJ out of the rigs in the GOM .This rod will be beat on with old Penn reels ,heavy line and locked down drag. The rod will stay in the rod holder until the fish is away from the rig, in some cases. I have been using the heavy uglystick big water but an 82lb warsaw had us a little worried. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

what are you using for a reel? Sounds like a short, stiff standup rod is what you need, something 80-130 maybe?
sorry I just reread.Yea, a penn 6/0 should do it. nice winch

Solid glass tidewater or ugly stik standup. Agree with above, you need an 80-130 class rod. But, the Ugly stik BWB 40-80 is a damn tuff rod.

the 80-130 pound seeker classic rods (all fiberglass) are excellent and indestructable. They are priced well too. I have been tempted to buy a newer, fancy, graphite blend to replace it, but I can never put this rod away. Thus, I continue to use this old workhorse.
