From the Intrepid:
Tue. Dec. 11, 2007: Well here goes. With today being our last day down here it was absolutly a wonderful way to wrap things up. We drifted again all day and picked away at these brutes ending the day with 12 of the 120 to 190lb. grade and 8 from 210 to 260lbs. We also picked up another Tuna today that taped out at 381 lbs. Congrats go to Bill Falter for battling this GIANT Tuna and as you can imagine Bill is a very excited and happy fisherman. Bill hooked this fish on the kite after it exploded on a jumbo live squid pinned to a custom double hook leader using an 18/0 Mustad 39960D circle hook and a 12/0 7691 Stinger attached to a 600 lb. Softsteel leader. Backing that up with 200 lb. Jerry Brown hollow spectra on an AVET PRO EXW 50-2 ( thanks Harry, you rock ) and a Seeker G463XXXH Black Steel Grafite rod this fish really didn't stand a chance. Here is a couple of shots and I'm sure there will be more later.

It's a big YFT to be sure and I'd be thrilled to have caught it even it if only weighed 200#s. BUT, let's wait until they hang it on the scale on land before the "new record" excitement begins. There was a big YFT that "taped out" at 402#s a month ago in PV. It mysteriously shrunk to about 360# back at the dock...

hey guess what were in the same boat, Instead of leaving for my fishing trip I just froze my ass off outside shoveling snow

That's about the only thing I don't miss since we moved from Ft. Lee back to Texas. We left just after that last blizzard in January of '05 or '06?

I'd like to have seen that fish going for the kite bait on top though!

If they rush the taping b/c the fish is flopping and their hands are shaking, "bleed 'em out" for flavor, hang 'em up (do you see blood on the deck?) for pix and maybe freeze them (but not one caught on the last day, surely) rather than put them into RSW, you can understand the origin of a few pounds of discrepancy.

update: well, that potential world record weighed 355#s at the dock according to a report I just got from SD. These "taped" numbers get hopes up every few months right now and I'd love the record to get smashed as much as anyone.....but taped weights have a tendency to be optimistic as of late :(
