The long awaited trip to panama sport fishing lodge is only 4 days away now and my tackles are nearly ready to roll. all thats left is a couple more windon leaders and some packing.

for thoes of you who have gone before, are there any must see or must do attractions in panama city? we will be there all afternoon on the saturday we arrive and that night as well. also another full day on the return trip.

i am planning on doing at least some sort of tour of the canal but other than that i haven;t been able to find any other interesting activities?

can anyone help with suggestions for:

1/2 day trip ideas for panama city?

night life destinations panama city?

any other daytime activities?
or night time activites that don't include paying for sex?

Sorry man just dont want you catching anything other than fish. I can tell you the casinos are very good and the local food is great as well. Most of the major hotels are self sufficient so you wont need to leave at night if you dont want to. Obviously the daytime gig is the Panama Canal and there is also great peacock bass fishing in the local waters of near the canal as I understand it

Just so there is no misinformation:

Your chances of getting HIV from this "high HIV number" country is about the same as getting it in the US.

But as Glenn said there are really good places to eat, you can join me to get some world class dim sum. You will gain a few lbs on this trip even thought you'll be casting all day! John took us to guacho's extremely good argentian style steak, grill, and fries. The clubs are fun to hang out at to meet people as well. Casinos are fun too although when Raza and I wentlast time at 5 am the craps tables were closed =T

No offense meant to Panama City Peter, I love Panama my favorite fishing destination to date. My high HIV comment was based on a documentary I saw last year where Panama City was specifically mentioned not all of Panama they did it by city population density in 2008. I noticed a lot of tables being closed as well during my visit.

I wish I had more time to actually see PC when was there would have loved to go peacock bass fishing

Can the travel to and from the lodge be done in 1 day?
Why does it require an overnight stay in panama city?

you can fly in then go right to the lodge....just depends when you get there. i'd allow 6 hours for the drive to the lodge. if you flew in that morning, then its not a big deal. flying out is tougher. id recommend a night there just to be safe.

It can def be done in one day. Most lodges have you sleep over in panama city due to flights as bret said. Most international flights get in after the last flight to david is made from another airport. Also if you fly in and sleep over you have time to check out the city which in itself is beautiful. It is one of the up and coming cities many if not all the buildings are new and the skyline is as impressive as that of any other major city (ny, tokyo, hk) The people are also friendly and most of touristy parts of the city are very safe.

The canal is interesting to see and something to check off the list but I couldnt possibly imagine hanging out there to see it for more than 20 or 30 mins.

Dan and Raza will be doing a 6 hr peacock/snook/tarpon charter about 10 miles from Panama city at another lodge for a day, its relatively cheap I believe 280 for a 4 man charter for the 6 hrs with food included. The last trip leaves at 1:30pm.

Old town is where I had a great time walking around getting souveniers from the street vendors and checking out some of the old architecture. Also they have really good shaved ice vendors walking around.
