Oilfish and grouper

    This weekend's video of the oilfish and groupers in Japan is done! Got some cool underwater footage of the akahata (blacktip grouper) too.

    Really cool. Looks a bit creepy out there at night in a kayak though! How deep were the groupers you were filming?
    Any idea the elevation of the snow capped mountain (volcanoe?) off in the distance?
    Really pretty scenery btw.

    The groupers were down at 30-35 meters, so between 90-100 feet roughly. That is Mt Fuji in the background at 3700 meters.

    Night time is a bit spooky... took me a few years, some daytime oilfish landings, and purchasing a dry suit to get up the courage to try this.

    That is pretty cool UW footage of the grouper striking your lure! Looks like the oil fish fight pretty hard! Awesome video! thanks
