I wouldn't want the rath of the crew coming down on me for even mentioning that subject. I am getting really pumped though. I was down sick last week and missed work all week. Thought I might have to bail out of the trip. I'm back on my feet now and ready for action!

The GEM guys are mightly quiet to have a 4 day trip planned. Guess they're busy getting everything together or spending time with family.

Yeah, I figured they would be talking plenty of BSby now...

well the weather looks good for satuday and sunday but it might blow a little on monday and monday night. well my main issue is figuring out how to get 4 coolers of tacke reduced down to one cooler. then once i get it reduced down to one 320 ssi cooler i have to figure out how we can load it on the boat. as tom has mentioned ocean tackle international is providing about 6 rods for testing and evaluation. i will rig the jigging rods with kaikon's and the spinners with saltiga's.....rick

It's blowing really hard now in Keller and I'm hoping it's going to be perfect timing on the window!

Bighead- I was really bad last week, but almost full speed now!

Really getting everything together and the adrenaline is beginning to flow!

I'm bringing a digital camera, but thinking about also bringing my laptop to dump pics on a CD.

Might anyone else need to dump their pics to make room on their camera?

I've got a good friend out in the gulf as we speak. He's in 12 footers right now. He and two others left port at 5:30am. They are going to work that nice rip that's about 30 miles offshore. It's the best rip I've seen this year. Dirty green to clear blue with lots of grass. It's a HOO trip. Their plan was to come back in before dark today.

Unfortunately, there is a limit on tackle that can fit on a boat. I understand your problem. I think the Coast Guard should make a rule that all boats that go offshore should have at least 5 rod holders per angler. I hope for your sake that the boat you guys have chartered has plenty of rod holders in the center section. Good luck on your trip and don't be afraid to slide the drag lever to full. There is no better feeling than having a fish try to pull you overboard.

Your friend must have big @ss boat to fish in this kind of weather or he just mad as hell at wahoo

BOTH.

I just called him. He said the seas were 5-6 when they left this morning in the dark. By 9am the winds started to blow 30 to 40 knots and never stopped all day. They were in steep 10-13s all day. They were only 32 miles offshore but kept working the color change all day. The weeds were all broken up and it was a lot of work to clean off the deep diving plugs.

They caught 4 hoos and 7 dolphin. He thought the hoo's were plentiful but the hassle of keeping the grass from sliding down to the deep divers made them switch to top water lures. The Hoo's were in the 30 lb range and one of the Dolphins was around 40 pounds.

You ought to see the emails about the trip! Not as many as TBB 06 had, which was 286 total emails and replies, but a dang large amount.
Matter of fact, anyone not going on the GEM 06 trip who can guess, within 5, the total number of emails and replies we've personally done on this particular trip, we will send them a prize, something relating to offshore fishing. We got a ton of stuff that everyone probably already has as well, but we'll find something that can be useful offshore, or regifted.
One vote per person, and no sharing information. We know how sneaky some of you are.(Minnow! ;) )
