I got an invite from an old teammate of mine that I had not seen in over twenty years to go try our luck out at the floaters over the weekend. We left out of Surfside around 11pm Friday night bound for tequila to start the day saturday. Arrived at 4am and started the fun with a little jigging, not much there just a couple of Black fin but it passed the time til sunup. As the sun came up we breoke out the 80W's, set the spread and the hunt was on! The action started about 30min into the troll with a respectable DODO (20# bull) that secided to eat the ballyhoo on the long line(of course)! We proceeded to run our way past and around sunrise and cervesa looking for marlin but to no avail, either no one home or we just were not holding our cohones the right way. Left cervesa to try for greener pastures and found one of the nicest color breaks I have ever seen, I mean green ugly and cobalt blue running for literally miles! We decided to work the break figuring that it had to be fishy! Turned out to be a good call as we produced several more large bull dodo's a respectable Hoo and a VERY nice sail along the way. Once the break ended we made the call to do some bottom bumping for tile and grouper, another good call producing 6 Tiles up to 15 pounds ( not only my first tile but a good one to boot!) Also got my first yellow edge grouper on this stop. Soon as the bite stopped on the bottom we wound it up and headed for Diana to try for some tuna. NADA-moved on to Nansen where at least the blackfin were around, spent the whole night throwing poppers and generally having some fun with some respectable sized blackies, the yellows just never showed up. Overall a really good trip, my thanks to Dwayne, Emil, and George for showing me a good time and putting me on some nice fish!

That is the Mattieduke, she's a 54' Bertram. Older boat, but is a real battlewagon. Handles the seas well and shure as hell can raise some fish!!! An old friend of mine charters her out of Freeport.
