Which jigging rod would you recommend for a newbie jigger ? My only
experience is with diamond jigs and a half dozen black fin on a 36 hour out of
galveston several years ago. I will be using diamonds again, along with some generic knife/butterflies. Do I still have time for a custom ?( Cinco Tuna-- end of october ).
I will have a Avet Jx 2spd for the trip.
Thanks
Mo

It might be too rush to do a custom rod but if the builder isn't too busy he might be able to build one for you. Email TXSEADOG if he might be able to build one for you.

For off the rack jigging rod, try Shimano trevalla, sea magic, and if you don't mind spending more money, get a Japanese jigging rod.

ksong,

Since you are considered the expert jigger, what is your opinion of the Zenaq Monster Buster MB-B60 for Ironman. Randy has them on sale right now. I'm thinking of buying one. That tuna max rod of his is excellent. Thinking of having him built me one. Have you seen one or fished with one?

I saw the Genesis tuna jigging rod is on sale at Anglers-Proshop.
All guides are Juji MNSG SIC. $225 for the rod is a real bargain.
I think the materials cost more than that.

Ksong, are you refering to the Genesis Long Range Special BR-56? Have you fished this rod or any of the Genesis rods?

Sea Magic from www.islanderscustomtackle.com is a good starting point. I have one and like it. Will upgrade once I complete a good base of gear again. I think my jiggin rod is 400 gram. I wouldnt go any lighter than that for tuna- theres a possibility a Yellow will hit.

I think I talked too much. :)
I haven't used Zenaq Monster Buster, but it should be an excellent rod since the company has a very good reputation. Randy can answer the question. :)
Randy said he'll get new parabolic action Tuna Max and I am looking forward seeing the rod as I like parabolic action rod for fighting big fish.
I hope Randy carry Carpenter rods in the future. Many jig fishermen in Orient I know rave about Carpenter rods though they are expensive.

Yes, I am talking about Genesis Long Range Special. I haven't use them, but the price is unbelievable. . Most products which Randy carry are good quality. When they use Fuji SIC guide on it, it should be a good quality. Randy can answer for it.

MrBill,

Monster Buster MB60 is one hell of a stiff rod you can also use for trolling, its also one rod you can up the drag and pull fish away from structures with confidence.

The Genesis LRS is also a heavy duty rod ideal for wreck jigging, with Fuji SIC guides and pretty wraps, it is really worth the money.

Kil,

Carpenter are famous for their popping rods, their jigging rod is good but for the price they are selling their jig sticks I don't think they are justifiable since there is so many other Jap jig sticks around that are just as good or better with less painful price.

I am considering selling their popping rods but popping is really slow in US. Hope I have the chance to join you guys on a Big E trip so I can bring some of the stuff for those who is interested to try them out.

When I visited Matsutani last week, he showed me his new popping rod; the Armorclad series finished with kevlar, those are really really mean and strong rods!

Do you have both of these in stock? If so, I'll take one of each. Let me know, and I'll zap the funds via PayPal tomorrow.

Randy
Just ordered them and a bunch of other nice stuff. It's amazing how easy it is to hit 4 figures on fishing gear. Looking forward to fishing these rods and all that other stuff I ordered.

You've never had a tackle invoice under 4 figures. Do I get to bend these new rods? At least you got something for your money. I got screwed real bad last night.

I was invited to a family birthday dinner at a place called the "Melting Pot." Sixteen of us and half way thru the dinner I went to use the head. The relative that invited us came in and told me he had a case of "NO FUNDS."

I knew something was wrong as he has never treated anyone to anything. Real tightass. Guess who had to pay that outrageous bill. That place was a highjacker joint. I had to put the huge dinner bill that was 4 figures on plastic, and I didn't even get credit for paying it.

GS, That melting pot is a fun place to do every once in a while, but man a couple bottles of wine and 4 courses then dessert... man it adds up..

I think you will like the Monster busters... it will have to be a monster AJ to break it...

Smoker,
I'll bet you a Penn Torque that I know who stiffed you for dinner. Must be on your in-law side. You always get the shaft at dinner. I think you have "Sucker" written all over your face. I'm serious about the bet.

Also, don't give me a hard time with tackle invoices. I still remember going to the freight terminal with you to pick a order a couple of years ago. I won't even post a guess at that invoice.

You're ON with the bet. I don't think I gossip about the in-laws family. The only chance you have of winning this bet is if I BS-ed to much while under the influence of to many cocktails. I did pay the deadbeat a visit yesterday. I got an over/under 101 as colaterial until he can pay me back. I think I just bought a nice shotgun.

You talk more than you think when you have a belly full of Scotch. Especially about people who irritate you. The funny thing is that I sometimes I actually listen. I think I have this bet in my pocket. Bring that Torque with you (if you have received one yet) when you come over @ 5 on Sat. I'll have an empty rod waiting.
