Nightime Wahoo

2590 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Zerodropper400
I'll be fishing the GOM floaters in a couple of weeks for yft which will happen at night. I'd like to try a technique I learned on the Excel for wahoo, but I have never heard of catching wahoo at night. Has anyone ever done it? What is different between daytime wahoo fishing and nightime? Any thoughts/advice would be most welcome.

i've asked on the NC forums, not a positive result either. If you the boat allows you, set up a weighted light line and a 1-3lb live bait on a 8-10K outfit and see what happens
I have seen a million kingfish caught at night but only one wahoo. Not a good ratio haha. I agree with porcha though try it if you can.
My friend Ramsay from S Africa told me it's the most preferred way to catch them in S Africa. High speed trolling with skirts that glow over the ledge. If it works lemme know.
We'll depart the dock in a week, and hopefully I'll have a report for you in about 10 or 11 days. Stay tuned for further details.....

Trip was canceled due to bad weather/rough seas.
You caught wahoo at night on the Excel?

No. We caught all our game fish during the day. Unlike the GOM, we couldn't get a tuna to hit a butterfly jig at night for lover or money. Live bait didn't work either. The only fish that were caught at night were trash fish, mainly sharks, so we gave up fishing when we went in to get cleaned up for dinner.
I caught one on a live flier. It was a trully odd fish
