I thought I would spice up you guys Monday morning with a little offshore fishing out of Freeport, TX to the Flower Gardens. We began the trip fishing the offshore rigs as far out as a 130 miles. The tuna didn't participate at night so we ended up trolling for Marlin and Wahoos. The marlin didn't materilize but the Wahoo were on fire. We filmed a whole show on the hoos in 1.5 hours. Hope you like it.

Argo did you recognize him first or after I mentioned his name. I like Tom. He is a good guy. They called me a Potlicker everytime a fish got off. I didn't quite get the reason for the name. You explanation sounds for feasible to me.

We went there from the Boomvang rig. I believe it was something like 28 miles. There were multiple rigs in that general area that we chunked for tuna at and trolled for marlin. I did catch one YF out there while trolling. I was about 2 pounds. LOL

as captain chancey stated there are other rigs in the area but the grouper fishing is almost as good as the wahoo fishing. also the flower gardens are 2 specific structures one east and one west. there are many spots in and around the flower gardens. west flower garden bank 27 52.500 93 49.000 the east flower garden bank 27 54.832 93 26.672 these numbers will put you in the general vacinity. purchase a hiltons offshore atlas and it has loads of spots in that area.....rick

How far are the flower gardens from Port Aransas. All I ever hear is that it is FAR. thanks for any info.

The Flower Garden Banks are supposedly 110 mi south of the intercept of the TX/LA boundary with the Gulf shoreline. If they're about 115 mi from Freeport, then (using Google Earth) they're about Lat 28° 5' 4.90"N 93°39'51.89"W or about 200-210 mi from Port Aransas.

McGolfer's lat/long for the west bank places it about 200 mi out of Pt A.
