Wow what a trip! Who cares about beeliner!
I never target beasty liners as i am not crazy about eating them. But i gotta ask myself what would i do with a 100lb YF? I got no clue how to cook it or anyplace to keep it. I mean sure i would love to get one for kicks. Any tuna i ever got were all by mistake and i just sold them or traded them for other fish. We only get blackfin over here. Never saw a YF caught on our partyboats.

I guess you could run 120 miles west from my area in 650ft and try to target YF but with no rigs around i am not sure how that would work out. I would love to see some rigs 80 miles offshore as i would guess there would be YF's around them.

Awesome trip!!!!!!! Capt. Matt and Crew are the best!!!

We started at 61st trying to catch bait. No luck there we caught one smallish piggie.

As Matt said bottom fishing was rough. I don't think I even had a bite. No big deal though this was a tuna trip. Bottom fishing is just a side bonus on these trips right.

Tuna fishing started kinda tough for me. Inspite of big tuna being caught left and right I couldn't buy a bite.

Throw the same Halco, same color, same distance, same retrieve and the guy next me hooks up. Happened over and over. Shoot I was standing right next to the guy when the big one hit.

Then it turned on for me but I couldn't keep these big bad boys pinned on.

On Halcos I lost one that ran under the boat and cut the braid. Lost one after a 15 minute fight. Following the fish we got in a tangle with a small fish already showing color. A liitle slack in my line and when we tighten up my fish is gone. Oh well back at it.....

I pulled hooks on two more and then hit another slump.

After seeing several hit frenzys a fellow fishermen convinced me to change over.

First cast with a pink Frenzy and fish on!!!!!!!!

I saw this fish come full body out of the water a slam on top of my Frenzy. Couldn't have been 25- 30 yards from the boat, we saw it all!!!!

Ater a tense battle we got this one over the side.

I tied on another frenzy and first cast BOOM!!!!!! Fish on!!!!!!!

Another right at the boat full out of water tuna beat down on that Frenzy!!!!!

Two casts two fish hooked up!!

I couldn't stop this fish. I had 65 lb braid with 100 lb. bite leader and 25 lbs of measured drag. The line popped😥😥.

I'm not having trouble with breaking fish off. Out of six on one rubbed the boat amd one flat broke off. My trouble is keeping them hooked till gaff time.

Oh man, this kind of report makes me miss living in Houston! I can go on an albacore fishing trip here but they want 700 bucks for it and no braided line allowed. And, you need a law degree here to interpret the fishing regulations!!!:ROFLMAO:. Happy new year y'all.

Boring on my side of the gulf. Can't keep anything anymore. Jacks and blacks and red snaps are closed. Grunts are the bread and butter fish over here for our 4 and 8 hour trips. Red grouper have been wiped out pretty much thanks to 40 years of long liners. If you go on a 36 hour you can only keep Mango snaps, porgies and beastyliners and if your very lucky a red grouper.

Was on Jan 5/6 trip with DaleR. I didnt have as good of luck as most on boat. My bud, DaleR was able to land a 80lber which was awesome. My spinning reel had some issues with a screw coming out. Captain readily helped fix my reel so I could get back out there and was able to catch a couple black fins. Thanks again captain Matt for the temporary fix. As always, the crew are great bunch. I cant wait to go again.
