I'm not sure it qualifies as "small" but the popper I was using was a Yozuri Surface Cruiser 7 1/2 inch in a blue mackerel pattern. This thing was over 20 years old so I'm not positive about the model, but looking at pics of the surface cruiser it was basically the same shape and style of mouth on the popper. I think anything that made a splash and sat still for a bit in the water was getting the tuna's interest.
Scale Surface lure Fish hook Fishing bait Bait

Hopefully these 120mm Pop Orca's is small enough, they are as small as I got on hand.

Sounds like I'll need to drag some new halcos around a parking lot.

Calm weather for sure.

Sorry for the late report, I have been crazy busy.
We had a solid trip.
I had a hard time deciding where to go on this one with all the success we had last week down south but I knew those rigs got slammed with traffic over the beautiful weekend.
I decided to head East and it turned out to be the right decision.
Bottom fishing was good. We got to fish some deeper bottom that I haven’t hit in a good while. The ridge we were on came up from around 500 ft and peaked at around 350-400 ft. The first couple spots were slower but the quality was there and we landed a good number of groupers early and ended the day with a solid Beeliner bite.
Tuna fishing wasn’t quite as hot as it was last week but the bite was steady all night and the Blackfins
were STUDS.
Halcos were the hot bait on this one.
Trip totals....
24 YFT
170 BFT
220 Beeliners
2 AlmacoJack
12 Scamp
4 YellowEdge
1 BlueTile

Danny will be taking over the NB on June 1.
We got in yesterday off a decent trip.
Bottom fishing was outstanding, the Beeliners were HUNGRY! At one point we had them chewing at 50 ft down. We were pretty close to a double limit of them.
Tuna fishing was a little slower than I would have liked. The fish were skittish, I believe from all the pressure they got over the past weekend.
We fished three rigs and caught some fish every where we went but had to do some traveling to put a trip together.

Trip totals...
20 YFT
145 BFT
669 Beeliners
3 Scamp

Well guys, this is a bit of a emotional roller coaster but this will be my last NB report. I have been working for GPB since 2008 and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I couldn’t ask for better bosses than Ed and Trey. I will be filling in for Danny from time to time but this was my last trip as a full time captain for GPB.

The trip was much slower than I would have liked my last trip to be but we put some miles in and burned a bunch of fuel and eventually put some fish in the boat.
Our day started off bottom fishing and the first stop was pretty good with a bunch of big BBs coming over the rail but it gradually slowed down through out the day. We had some squalls around us and the wind was shifty making for a poor anchor bearing and we ended up moving out to 300-400 ft for the last couple stops and the deep water was slow for us again.
Tuna fishing was a grind. We started off at Hoover where we ended on our last trip and did well but this time it was slow, we boated a couple YFT and some BFT but it wasn’t good enough to stay. The next stop was Globe Trotter 2 which was a bust. The third stop of the night was Deepwater Thalassa and we put some YFT and a pile of BFT in the boat there but by around 4:30 it completely died. With out much time to spare we ran over to Perdido for the morning bite and boated a few more YFT and a Wahoo to end the night. The beautiful weather we have had lately has put a ton of pressure on all our rigs and they have gone a bit stale. We had to make a lot of moves on this one to put fish in the boat.
I hope to fish with y’all again soon on the BlueFin and would like to thank everyone who has fished with me on the New Bucc.
Trip totals....
14 YFT
140 BFT
1 Wahoo
5 Scamp
344 Beeliners
