It’s been a while since our last trip but we finally got back out there and had some of the nicest weather we have seen in a long time.
Bottom fishing was decent, Beeliners bit well but we were not able to move out deeper due to the current.
Tuna fishing was good, it had its lulls but for the most part we were able to stay on good fish, we had to do some moving around to stay on them though. We fished three rigs and caught fish on all of them but the last hour of the trip was pretty exciting. We also had some JUMBO BFT.
Most of our yellows came off Halco 130s with a few being landed with Yummees and Frenzy.
Trip totals..
44 YFT
149 BFT
300 Beeliners
4 Scamp
5 Dorado
White Seafood Sky Fish Animal product
Water Sky Vertebrate Mammal Fish
Seafood Fish Grey Gas Hat

Thanks Matt for a great tip. Was a bit of a grind but wow, what a finish! That last spot we hit was creepy weird like something out of a Tim Burton movie.

I look forward to fishing with on your last New Buccaneer trip at the end of the month.

Still hoping for a ticket for the trip on 29th, if anyone has an extra, please PM me!
So does anyone know a good spot for fishing pinfish near the docks? We are staying up that way tonight and trying to avoid running all the way down to 61st and then back up to the docks. Thanks.
Those are some nice Blackfin. Look forward to chasing them this summer with you on the Bluefin

The trip was pretty epic! We had 9 guys in my group and at least 8 landed at least one yellow. Mick, Mike and I carpooled from Dallas about 10 and met David at the 61st street pier and loaded up on pinfish and croaker then headed to the boat. Unfortunately by the time we hit the first spot only about 6 pinfish were still kicking.
I tried for grouper at each spot with no luck so settled for a bunch of smaller beeliner. There were a few grouper caught though.
When we hit the first rig, I hooked up on a popper but it ended up being a small blackfin that I reserved for chunk. Mike lande a nice yellow on a pink Halco then it was nothing for either of us after that. Tuna were being caught all around us using the same technique. The battered and repainted fusilier Halco seemed to be the hot lure with 2 yellows and a big black that I saw. I tried Halcos, poppers, frenzy’s and chunk and still no tuna. The second spot Mike crashed out so I tried the popper and had two blowups on it but no hookups. I started using Mikes rod and boom fish on. After a short fight I got it to the boat. At the third stop I hooked a small black and Mike caught 2 yellows almost back to back. A school of mahi came into the boat. Mike threw his lure in the middle and hooked a massive fish. He went off to fight it and I kept throwing the pink Halco and hooked a mahi. I went over to help Mike fight his fish and it was an absolute beast. I pumped and reeled, pumped and reeled and could barely budge it. Suddenly pop…. Broken braid.

mot was an awesome trip and as always Matt worked hard to put us on fish! Good luck to the guys sailing today!

Sounds like it was a great trip!!! Its nice hearing reports like that considering all the trips that were cancelled this Spring. The pink halco worked well for myself as well, catching my 1st yft last fall with it. It sounds like the battered beat up re painted halco is the hot ticket. My bud, DaleR did well with his custom painted halco. Do you have any pics of your halco? Again, thanks for the great report.
PS, kind of makes me wish I had another trip month. DaleR recently messaged me, "its gonna be a long wait til fall, like a kid waiting for Christmas to get here"

Thanks for the pics. Your meal looks awesome!!!
Last time I used purple and caught 2, this time the pink was on 🔥. First time I tried it all night and it worked!
I really enjoy mango ceviche, the crusted ahi and spicy tuna. Some of my favorite recipes!

We got in off another solid trip yesterday to cap off a great week of fishing. We put over 100 YFT on ice this week.
Bottom fishing was ok, our first stop was a mixture of RS and BBs but the Beeliners were all studs. The second stop we moved out deeper but the bite was slower there.
We got to the rig early and had a fantastic sunset bite. After that things slowed down but the rest of the night was fairly steady. Smal poppers were the bait of choice on this one.
Trip totals...
60 YFT
147 BFT
199 Beeliners
5 Scamp

Awesome trip Capt Matt! We had a blast. The popper fishing was a ton of fun. Thanks for loaning me that popper towards the end. I will have more in my box before I go out again. The one that I broke off has been riding around in my box for over 20 years and I never used it. I pulled it out yesterday, caught 2 fish back to back, then hooked a third and my braid snapped, perhaps after he took me against the boat. I should have brought more poppers.

Thanks for all the great trips on the New Buc. We are looking forward to booking a Smith and Son's trip.
