I know weather has been dicey at best lately and it's still early, but how are the two trips for next week looking as far as weather goes?

I got these off ebay for 5 bucks each. You can get them unrigged pretty cheap.

Right now Monday looks great and Thursday’s forecast looks good as well but still far out for that one.
Blowing here again this weekend. Water is still dirty from the 35+ knt blow from last Sunday. Looks like a big warm up coming and no wind on my side of the gulf.

I noticed in the 2022 thread Capt Matt was saying casting Shimano flat fall jig's works well. What size jig's work best for this technique?

The smaller ones seem to work better. I can’t recall how many grams exactly. The white, blue, and pink color seems to out fish the rest of them.

Any report on the Monday / Tuesday trip, and how does the weather for our Thursday / Friday trip look?
2/20-21
We had a solid day of bottom fishing off of two stops on the way out, we had close to a one day limit of Beeliners and a nice African Pompano and a handful of Almacos.
Tuna fishing started off pretty hot, we landed 12 on our first drift and at the end of the drift one of our fishermen suffered a stroke. We got in touch with CG sector NOLA and set up an airlift, we made way to Auger to get closer to the chopper and most importantly to take advantage of cell phone service that is available at that rig and our coms with the CG were much better after that. We successfully made the transfer at around 12:30. After that we made our way back to Magnolia and caught a few more YFT there but it had slowed down so our last stop was a nearby drillship and we put a pile of BFT in the box there and one more YFT.
I’d like to thank all of our fishermen, everyone was super understanding and helpful in clearing the top deck and any other items out on deck that could be blown away by the helicopter and several of our fishermen made arrangements to take care of his vehicle and tackle for him.

Trip totals....
21 YFT
157 BFT
298 Beeliners
1 AfricanPompano
7 AlmacoJack

I did not get any pics of our catch on this trip.

Captain Matt I tip my hat to you, your crew and all of you fishermen and fisherwomen on that trip. Outstanding effort from all! I hope that the gentleman or lady in question pulled through with minimal issues, is on a fast track to recovery and will be out again sooner than later.

I look forward to fishing with you and your crew in May sir.

We had a deckhand get stung by a fish once on one of our Keywest trips at nite and had to get him airlifted in rough weather. That fish put him down for the count just like that.
I'm glad to hear the fellow fisherman is doing better.
Definitely good he's doing better. Good job getting him help asap.

This trip didn’t go quite like I had hoped.
we started off bottom fishing at Stetson Rock hoping to be able to catch some Kingfish or maybe even a Wahoo on driftlines while bottom fishing but the current was screaming, after a couple unproductive stops there we made a 12 mile move and were able to get out of some of the current and got on some good Beeliners for a couple hours.
We started off at Hoover and it was pretty slow, almost no blackfin and we were only hooking a yellowfin on every other drift. After a few hours of slow fishing there I decided we had to make a move and I felt like making the run into a sloppy 6-7 ft sea to Perdido was our best bet so a few hours and a butt whoopin later we arrived to a good Blackfin bite but unfortunately never saw another YFT the rest of the night. Last trip there was the end of January and we did well on yellows, I felt certain we would be able to scratch out a handful but that was not the case.
Trip totals....
6 YFT
125 BFT
397 Beeliners
4 AlmacoJack
9 Rockhind
1 BlackJack

You guys sure have the beastyliners over there. No one fishes much for them on our boats.
There’s a good chance we don’t spend much if any time at the floaters on Mondays trip. I have a good report from the shelf rigs of Kingfish and jumbo BFT. My plan is to get a lot of bottom fishing in and spend most of the night at the shallower rigs and maybe moving out to the closer floaters for a morning bite. In the last two days I have reports from every rig in our range and none of them are very good. The best reports are from two drillships at 190 miles and it is only BFT. I believe we can accomplish the same thing and plus some by staying inside the shelf.

Capt Matt, any suggestions on what to bring for Kingfish as far as tackle

Steel leaders and sardines, I spoke with Kevin on the Gulf Eagle and he fished one of the shelf rigs last night after bailing on the floaters and they caught kingfish on jigs and Halco’s along with BFT.
