I've got a trip in late March typically what does the yft bite look like that time of year?
Usually a smaller class of fish but March is normally pretty good. That time of year they can be keyed in on smaller baits. I would definitely bring a couple of the smaller Frenzy’s and if you chunk use tiny pieces of bait.

Wished i lived over there or you bring the boat over here. 22 knts are what dreams are made of. All our cheap boats go slower and slower. 10 knts is the norm. I would love to see you guys come over here and mix things up. I gots plenty of numbers for ya but just not much in the way of tuna.
We have to run a LONG ways here. How far do you guys fish on a 12 hour?

The weather for the 3rd isn’t looking good. If your on Tuesdays trip you might want to start thinking about jumping on Thursday’s when the call is made. The final decision will be made Monday AM but if the forecast holds it will cancel. Thursday’s weather is looking much better as of now.

Our first trip of the year was an epic night of fishing under the full moon.
On the ride out we made a couple quick stops for Beeliners but it was not happening, after I realized that nothing was going to work after fishing three stops in two different areas I decided to go ahead and get an early start on tuna.
While the bottom bite was non existent the tuna bite was pretty much red hot all night. Halcos and Frenzy’s were the baits of choice with a few being caught off jigs. Our average size was great, somewhere around 70 lbs and we also lost a bunch more due to the long battles and hooks pulling and lines breaking. The biggest fish of the trip went 143 on the boat scale.

The plan was to make the long run back to where we have been fishing so the bottom time was short. We made one quick stop and in the hour we were there the fishing was good with nearly 200 BBs being boxed.
Tuna fishing started off pretty bad. We returned to the drillship that was great for us just 4 nights prior but with another partyboat fishing it over the weekend and several other boats with us there at the time the fish had either already been caught or completely spooked by all the traffic. We fished there for a while waiting on moon rise in hopes that would get things going... it didn’t and we gave it a couple more hours to just have a more fishing boats pull up. It was clear that wasn’t the answer. In addition to the rig being crowded we were also missing all the bait and current that brought us so much success in our last two trips.
Plan B was also a bust but we arrived at Plan C at around 2 am and turned our night around. Fishing was good from 2am-sunrise and we even had a pretty decent bite for a bit once the sun was up.
Once we got on some fish the bait of choice was a Halco 130 with a few fish being caught on poppers and Frenzy’s.
