Here it goes .I plan on getting a Avet LX 2 speed .I would love for all to give me input on this.I do like the way the gears read 6:1 Hi and 3:1 Lo .The drag seems a little weak at 15# freespool and 20# in full .
The other one would be a AvetEX gears 4:1 HI and 2:1 lo.The drag is 20# at freespool and 30 at full
The reeling going to be in a Narrow style.
The rod will be order from the Great OTI of course

PS I'm a Big Boy and can all the pro's and con's of this reel

I would wait and get the "wahoo special" LX 2 speed. It would give you the extra drag and I think it weighs only an oz. more. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

pope, that's what I am doing. the Hoo-X is supposed to be 27 or 28 oz I believe. I am going to fish it heavy, with 100#PP and 80#mono topshot, on a chaos ECA 50-100 rod. If the reel has spec'ed out at high 20s in drag at strike, I think it should handle it okay.

The EX4/0 is good, but the Proex30N is better. I plan on getting one and fishing it as above, but 130# spectra and 100#mono topshot.

As you can tell, I am trying to do a massive downsize on my big game tackle. If it doesn't work, I will go back to the 50W and 30W classes of reels.

I haven't touched my Penn 50S, 50SW and Avet 50/02 this year tough I had close 100 tuna in 50 -150 lbs range. :)
I even used my small 3/0 size jigging reel to catch tuna on bait. :)
I had lots of fun.

I just got off the phone with Avet and the new reel should be out in mid January
Spec's are:
5:4-1 hi and 2:4-1 lo
LINE- 350 of 40# mono
Drag at free spool 24#-26# and in full drag 32#-36#

I was told they are still playing with the Drag setting But so far they think this might be the sweet spot

The new Avet will be a ounce heavier

OK My trip was pretty good. There was a total of 3 YFT hook about 50#-70# was the biggest.I did hook up with one however the popper I was using I did not change the hooks and that was a hard lesson to learn. there was a ton of black fins caught(those are little fighters). The next day we went to a rig that held a butt lot of Grouper and Red snapper caught(all snapper were released)The grouper I did get in the boat went about 60-65 .Grouper are one hard A-- pulling fish That's why I want to get that Avet with the higher lo gear

I have the LX 2 speed. It's 6.0 to 1 and 2.8 to 1. It's an awsome reel. For me, it's the perfect reel to use in the Gulf. It's not to big for snapper, ling and dorado. It's not to light for YFT. For me it's been just right. The low gear is also a winch. It will give you 20lbs of drag which is a lot if you check it out on a scale. I have used more by putting by thumb on the spool. I figure that I can get at least 5 more lbs out of my opposable thumb ;-)

The thing I like about it is that it's light, around 20 oz. I could use a 30 or 50 class reel but when jigging thats just to heavy. My LX hasn't let me down yet. With spectra it holds plenty of line.
