My Report, and Kyles first deer!

Hey Bret, anything moving around your place - I saw you mentioned you were going to get out.

My son Kyle got his first deer opening morning, a fork horn. He shot him a little after 8:00am - was aiming for the sholder but shot a little high and ended up breaking his backbone and dropping him in his tracks - one worry over, I was dreading the possibility of tracking a wounded deer.

Other than this 4-ptr that showed up all over the place at all times of the day most of my bucks are still nocturnal. They don't appear to be chasing anything yet, infact they are in bachelor groups now whereas they had not been before - go figure.

I've had quite a few new bucks show on my cameras the last 2 weeks at least 4 more 8 pointers and a nice 10 pointer. I'd dearly love to get either the 10 or biggest 8 for the wall if they will accomodate.

Here are some photos:

Yes, I still have hogs :) If I had gone to the other blind yesterday evening instead of the one Kyle took the forkhorn from I'd have one fewer as they showed up there.

You guys with these great camera shots... make me kinda miss blasting Bambi!!! :) :) Great job on getting the boy his first!! I still remember my dad and I shooting my first deer!!! That memory will last a lifetime!! I, too, aimed at the shoulder and shot the deer in the spine at the neck... LOL!!!
Congrats to your son on his first deer. Looks like the forkhorn in the 2nd post, fourth picture.
Hey Earl, Tell Kyle congrats on his first buck. You have some really nice bucks... I hunted hard all weekend and saw the same 5 deer... a fawn,2spikes, a 3point and smaller 8.. 10hrs in the stand on sat.. 8hrs on sunday.. I only had a glance at a couple of does(what I really wanted) and a larger buck. My buddy hunted nearly as long as me but only saw a couple of yearlings.. very slow..............
Yep that's him, he'd show up at all hours of the day and night - other than one or two of the 8 ptrs and one appearance by a spike he was the only one not totally nocturnal. I'm really hoping the 10 ptr and the 8's get to moving during the day soon.

Congrats to your son on his first deer. Looks like the forkhorn in the 2nd post, fourth picture.
Congratulations Kyle
Damn that boy grew up since we went fishing all those years ago. I will never forget him catching Ross in the next boat with a rat-l-trap! Good job dad!
Thanks Tony, he still loves to fish too. Yes, he grew 6.5 inches last time I checked this year alone, he's allready as tall as I am..Doc says he still has a few growth years left, I only hope he doesn't keep growing at that rate! And he's eating me out of house and home, at least now he can provide his own meat!
