I am not against the slot fish rule. Just not worth a 12hr drive. The slot rule wouldn’t even be a thought if I was still up north.

I was just on a fluke/c bass charter Saturday, and we caught a Striper as by catch on a fluke rig...lol....Montauk was jumping, it looked like most people had masks. We started out with masks, ended up without, but we were in 8-15 mph winds, and kept our distance. I didn't go in the cabin ...THe head boats are limiting number of anglers. They have spots marked 6 feet apart. I think NY has entered phase 3, so that may all end this weekend. Can't be soon enough for me, just make sure everyone wears a mask.

P.S spoke to a friend who went out yesterday for stripers, He said everyone seemed to be hooking up right off the point. He got 2 slot fish, which was all that he could keep

You’re allowed 2 fish? I thought it was one slot fish per person.

    December/January - Virginia Beach
Bridge and Bay tunnel, at NIGHT only,
    with LIVE EELS.

Or its fishing on the outside,
usually past the 3 mile line,
and they are trolling for them.

Illegal to fish for striped bass outside the holy 3 mile line. The Chesapeake striped bass fishery is in shambles again. There should be another moratorium.

Yes I know in montauk it’s illegal to fish outside the 3 mile limit for stripers. Every year we see boats just outside the limit get there fish and then shoot to get inside the border.

Moratoriums do little to help striped bass reproduction.
The WEATHER/water temps during the week of and after the spawn,
DETERMINE the success of the spawn,
    NOT
the amount of spawners in the river.
Water temps and rain control the success rate of the eggs.

Unfortunately, in the past 8 years,
we have had 5 of the worst spawns on record,
and its due to the weather patterns changing.

Benny, striped bass will be really good again
    in 12-15 years potentially,
    just wait till then ;)

PS> 90% of the fish you catch in Montauk,
    are Chesapeake striped bass.

Thanks HJ for thinking I’ll still be fishing in 15 years!
