Who has bought one of the Makaira spin reels? I am looking for any opinion from the people who fished with it. Alan's review is not coming for months but I can't wait all that long. Any opinions and comparisons with Stella or Dog Fight please.

In my opinion this reel was made for one reason. It wasn't made to beat the Stella or saltiga. It was built so that all the okuma junkies could get rid of their Stella's and saltigas and say "look at me!". I'm not saying it's a bad reel, it's caught some big fish. But to put it in the same conversation as the Stella and saltiga is a little much right now imo.

What's the price point on this reel?
I have been waiting a while to see Okuma come out with a heavier spin reel.... not much since the VS series, they kinda stopped after that... well Aussie market anyhows

Looking at the drag knob on this I can't help but notice how similar it is to the Omoto Severo New Tech Hi Speed 5000H. It could be that these reels may have more in common meanwhile I'll just have to wait for Alans report.

I don't understand. I find this pics on Facebook. People catching fish. But no one in USA have it yet? No information? No opinion?
I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to bet that the people in those pics are pro staff folks who get early/prototype releases of the gear in question. They put it thought its paces, provide feedback, get some pics, drum up some interest, and it gets folks posting questions about the gear on forums:)

I should have it next week jandh told me reels had been shipped to them two days ago and as soon they get going to send to me. Yes I going put quiet few pictures and how its crank, one on icast last year feels like broken VS. Okuma claim they improve gearing a lot so now is like day and night what was on prototype. I bought just for one reason 67 in per crank and oil seal like VS going replace my 30000 Stella for big tarpons and sharks

Rich from BlackRose fishes Okuma a great amount... I passed on your question to him - He has fished the reel - has taken some good size fish on it and would be one of the few people I know that can talk about it. I also know that Rich took the okuma spin reels out of his line up 5 years back as there were not up to the task - I don't want to talk for him but I think his opinion has changed.

Ha, Dave....That fateful day....Yes, I stopped using their spinners for tuna about 6 years ago....They just didn't build them for big bluefin . I started testing the prototype models in 2015. .. strong reels. Very unique drag setting....Pre-season like a lever drag (set it as you wish..."20" represented 30# for me...)... Landed a 305# and a 280#.... I think they will be a keeper. Price at $800 and $900 for the two sizes... They took off a bunch of weight since they made my prototype models. They feel very well built. The gears are way stronger than any model they ever made, obviously. June 1, I plan on running and gunning for tuna..And we all know by now that June is monster month... If you want to try them out, fish with me and try them out before you buy...
