We met at the lease on Friday night to "cristen" the new lease with a lot of food and a little to drink so we would be sober enough to make sure the bucks had 8 or better with a spread outside the ears...lease rule. I hunted on Sat am with my 15 yr old daughter Brittany who decided on Friday that she wanted to hunt.

We saw a doe come out at 6:25 am and then her yearling. After 25 min of watching them come right under the stand and down another road to the feeder I heard crashing, a grunt and then a wheeze from the brush. The doe answered and went into the brush for a little happy time not to be seen again that day. The yearling which turned out to be a button-buck stayed out til 7:10 am. About 7:40 a 6pt walked out and disappeared after 5 min. No more deer for us.

That afternoon we went to a different stand that had lots of hogs on the trail cam pics but they didn't cooperate.

Sunday afternoon I went out with my 12 year old daughter Samantha (Sam). It was rainy and them about 5:30 the ground fog cut the visability to 75 yds. Since the feeder was about 125 yds away we decided to go pick up the trail cam and look at the new pics. About 70 yds from the feeder I freeze as I see 6 adult hogs and 12-15 piglets! The adults range from about 150lbs-400lbs+ I tell her to pick a meduim size adult. Well she is trying to aquire them offhand so I have her neal down for stability. She said to hold her ear plugs in and as soon as I put my fingers on the ear plugs "Shooter" fires the .308 and a nice sow dropped like a stone! The others scattered into the woods and I said "Great shot Sam! Lets go get the 4wheeler!" She said in a really ticked off tone "Why aren't we going to go get he hog Dad!?!" I then explained if she wanted to drag it to the 4wheeler that was fine with me. When we rode up she couldn't believe how big it was.

The sow went about 150-175lbs dressed out.

Awesome report. Its great that your girls like to hunt and good on ya for taking them. Its always nice to have some fresh pork, so when you shoot that fat doe, you can make some sausage.

Great report! A couple of friends and I just boned out a couple of hogs today and will be preparing for smoking some sausage. We are going to mix beef with the pork and try out a couple of recipes for link and pan sausage. I love this time of year!

Thanks guys! Sam aka "Shooter" is really stoked! It will have to be a spike this year cuz the last group was sneaking off deer they shot and there are not accurate records for the lease so we can only take a spike and a trophy of 8 or better with the inside spread outside the ears. If we can't get a spike or a trophy this weekend we will be mixing with beef.
