For my winter project, I am thinking of adding hook keepers to my rods. Most rods have a blank area to add the keeper using a colored thread to match the existing thread color. I noticed on my Hearty Rise rods there is no blank area to install a hook keeper without covering some specs or model decal with wrapping. So I came to a thought of a clear or transparent wrap. Doing a search I came up with this thread. Has anyone ever wrapped anything with it?

The only downside I can see is that if you forget to wrap the jig with it hooked to the hook holder. Todays rods are made of high-tech materials that will bend incredibly, but impacts can damage the structural integrity of the rod weakening it.

You are right Kim! I don’t travel with jigs set up. I take off jigs from split ring when traveling and just wanted a place to hold top hooks down. I don’t like hooking to the guide or reel.

Used to do something like that cos mine don’t have hook keeper and learn it hard way it’s not the best way. Now I just leave the jig attached and lie on the floor :)
You can put the hook in one of the guide legs but never in the ceramic ring. Another place is somewhere on the Reel handle ( around the knob area). Most jigging hooks are big enough that they will clear the area and you will not do any damage .

Yes I can do that and it’s better than the ring area. Just don’t like the scratch marks it makes.

Benny, I just remove the jig, loop a fat rubber band around reel knob with hooks in the rubber band loop with a little tension.
That’s a great idea! Wish I asked before I bought 48 hook keepers, rod turning machine, thread, and epoxy. But then I’d have no winter project. How I can fix my own guides if needed.

Hey Kim I found a box of lobster rubber bands from my old lobster helping days. They are small, wide and super strong. Going to try these on the reel like you said. What’s great about these they are so small and don’t get in the way when not stretched. Anyone want to buy a bunch of HD hook keepers. Lol

I know you are a wrapper, but I installed zip ties and a solid split ring on my rod under my upper hand. 1- it’s out of the way of casting, You can lose your lure when line hits that. 2) the lure hits the foam instead of the blank if you drive so won’t break it 3)zip ties have cool colors so people using your gear know where to hook it

Sounds good! Can you post up a pic? I’m thinking the ring will dig in to the rod after awhile.
