My good friend Brian flew in from Denver, and wanted to get into some surf fishing so we packed it up and headed south on Wednesday.
After a few stops at Woody's smoke shop, FTU and Joe's we arrive around 2 in the afternoon and start soaking crabs.
Not long after we get baits out one of the rods starts screaming and Brian gets to work.

After a quick fight Brian has his first bull red on the sand.

The bite was pretty slow for the rest of the afternoon, and once the sun started to set the bugs started to move in with
the north wind. It looked like the grasslands behind us were smoking !!!

The next morning we get to the beach around 7 and decided to take a drive and check out how bad the beach erosion is.

We head back towards the barricades and setup a few rods with no takers and decided to move after lunch back to where
we fished the evening before. As soon as we set backup at the other spot we start getting back into the fish, and Brian's back in business !!!

After the sun set the bugs were just insane, we packed up after the last rod got hit and get off the beach. The next morning
we get started a little later in the day, and are happy to see that we have a south wind to keep the little blood suckers away from our camp.

Those are nice reds. It is a miracle you guys didn't catch any big uglies.

Nice bunch of bulls! I used to fish HI a lot and this time of year has always been very productive. Haven't fished there in a while but noticed recently how all the dunes are gone and the amount of destruction that has occured. The beach looks flat and packed.
