I have a Fin Nor OFS95 on a tuna popping rod that is on its way. I have yet to load it up w/ Line because Dolphin DOcks says no braid, and I sure dont want to load it up w/ Mono for a Popping/Jigging rig.

I told them no braid = no go/no tip, and asked how customers are supposed to jig w/ mono, they snarled

I also have a 6/0 Wide on a 60-80lb all roller rod for Chunking, plenty of 10/0, 11/0, and 12/0 circle hooks.

I also have about 4-5 Yozuri 5" poppers and a jig box full of a good assortment of jigs.

What else do I need to take?

Can I take food/drinks since there is none provided? The boat we are going on is La Pesca, does it have a TV? How do people usually pass the time of a 12 hour boat ride to the floaters?

Just called DD's and they said as long as you aint getting tangled, and you are using a topshot, you will be just fine. He said that if you do tangle, yours will be the first to be cut because braid is hard to untangle, but he said with a topshot its ok, just to know that yours will be the first to cut if you get tangled.

how many hrs of fishing do you normally get in on a 36hr on la pesca??
on the 40hr I went on, we got about 24hrs of line in water time. I think it just depends on where they go, the la pesca only goes about 10knots.

It's been several years since I rode one of their boats but I don't expect much has changed.

Not officially. They have a galley on board and expect you to buy all your food and drinks from them. I use to sneak in a boxes of energy bars and a couple of liters of water.

It did but their boats are so loud you couldn't hear it.

Try to sleep when the boat is moving so you can fish when it's stopped. They may also let you troll a couple of lines - just stay away from the 12/0 shark/man killers they have.

They troll all the way out all the way back, and to differents spots if its a long enough move. They have a TV, but its ust worthless tapes, and when the boats stopped you can still barely hear it. If you havent been on the boat yet, expect nothing and you will be happily surprised, because the boat aint much. Be sure to get a bunk towards the bow so you can get some shuteye.

I would load the reel up with spectra and a short topshot of about 5 feet and go fishing.
I just love people that don't understand spectra. I have had 80 lb Jerry Brown hollow core cut by 50 mono. My son was bottom fishing when a king made an unannouced tour around the boat before coming tight. The moving line cut the stationary line.... snip.
No angles... no tangles...
Get you a Frenzy flying fish or three. Rig with the treble stingers. You can drift this out on your 6/0 and possibly score a fat yellow fin that way if you have troubles with the crew over your spinner. Just give it a pop every once and a while.

its a lot harder to cast the 100 lb topshots on the spinner. I have tried the 100# and also 60#. Its quite a bit of difference. I personally think I get about 30 yds extra distance with topshot diameter at the 60# mark. I DO use a 1-2 foot leader of 80# flouro tied to my lure. and of course a swivel to reduce line twist. I would rather have the xtra 30 yds distance and use a little extra finesse when the fish is boatside.... that 30 yds could be the diffence between blackfin and yellowfin....

Don't waste your time popping if the conditions aren't right . I use braid with floro leader on DD boats for jigging every time. La pesca sits high off the water so your better off with longer rods. For chunking and live bait topshot is better.
