Maybe someone here will find this useful:

On our last fishing trip, my friend and I had several prop tangles while jigging adrift or at anchor with a freelined google eye on the topline. A few times the props grabbed our topline, and once it happened with some extra cord from the chumbag.

We stopped the tangles by keeping the throttles in gear (with the ignition turned off) while at anchor...that way, the props don't spin in the current and start taking wraps of line/weed/etc. Problem solved.

My friend is a ship's master, and I'm not a stranger to outboards, but neither one of us has seen anybody keep the engines in gear while fishing to stop the props from turning. If anyone else is having prop tangles, it might be worth a try.

Great idea! Thanks for the suggestion. I've had line wrapped around the prop a few times and it's a bear to unwrap without falling in.
