nick cheramie just sent me these pics from there recent trip. the big ajs are starting to show up. these were caught on live bait but still a great catch. havent seen any big ajs in a while so i though you boys would enjoy. one was weighed at the dock at 82lbs and the last one (last 3 pics)was 100lbs even.
Do you guys hunt for AJs just to for sport and their aggresive strikes on jigs? One post said one was weighed at the dock....you don't eat them do you?

great sportfish and absolutely delicious!
They're not my favorite but the smaller one's are good. aj's in the gulf don't seem to have worms like those in the atlantic. I've cleaned 20 or so up to 50lbs this year and haven't seen a single worm.
its great fresh...doesn't freeze well even if vaccum sealed. does anybody know why they don't get the worms in the gulf, i know the don't just not why? I do know one thing for sure is that snowy is damn tasty!!!!!!
AJ is widely sold as a commercial fish down here, and Sushi is pretty popular too - Kanpachi. (We went to a local restaurant Sat night and a friend ordered it blackened as a daily special.)
Actually my kids prefer it to other species I bring home when I cut it into small strips and fry the hell out of it. (Read - OVER cook it) Tastes just like chicken fingers!
The AJ pix were nice, but I was really looking at those flat seas over their shoulders!

I thought Kampachi is 'YellowTail'
Hamachi is yellowtail...
I'll have to give the aj sashimi a try.
