A few might remember hearing of the double hookup I got on a couple marbled grouper.. well here is a pic Matt took.. Josh (head deckie) is holding them, as I didnt want to slow the process down and hold them for the picture... this was during the 15 minute "all hell broke loose in grouper town" fiasco..... LOL!! 39 grouper in 15 minutes... WOW!! I of course am standing to the right of Josh... Next drop and I get some yahoo next to me not using enough weight and causes a tangle that takes me cutting my leader loose, and retying after spending the time to get my leader out of the tangle... i get one more fish- but only after the initial "all hell in grouper town" was over.... LOL!! Still fun regardless, and tangles are part of the headboat fishing.:D

its a double drop leader made on some 300# ?? test line bench crimped. has 3 way swivels onthe hooks and up top... and the bottom is a snap for atttaching a 50 pound mono leader to your weights... (in case the weights get hung up, you can break them off and still have the leader)... I broke off 3 sets of weights on thebottom...shhhhhHHHHH!!!!

i actually let out enough line for the wieghts to remain on the bottom, and just moved the rod up and down with the waves.. some of the waves were too big and would move my wieghts... but the majority of the time my rig stayed motionless on the bottom-- I think that was the key to me getting bit several times.. I missed more than I could count- the hooks were actually too big- but they got the job done.... this leader was made for HUGE AJ's...

I also rainthe braid straight to the leader.. less stretch and I could feel everything my bait was doing.. I could feel the piggy perch start shaking , then the very subtle bite.. I would pull up and have weight, then the hook would come unbottoned due to the size.. that was my fault for using a big hook... but like I said- it got the job done even though it wasnt made for small grouper

Im hosting a customer appreciation bash down off POC this summer and I want to target some slob AJ's. I was breaking off with 200# leader in Venice although we landed two over 60#. Im not the best at making rigs plus i dont have a bench crimper. I would gladly pay to have some made, its worth it to me as I fish for them all the time

What the hell do you do if you get smacked by two with a double rig. Hold on and kiss you ass goodbye LOL

what type swivels and sized hooks do you suggest, I would use circles

Mcgolfer got the answer on this one :D, He almost went swimming twice

I use 600lb, 3 way swivels and 16/0 Mustad circle hooks. I know the swivels is over kill :p .
Bass Pro part#38-400-559-01. Let me know how many do you need, and I will pick it up at BPS and you can reimburse me later.

For AJ I like to use single circle hook with egg sinker, as I hardly ever put big live bait down all the way to the bottom, For Grouper I like to use 2 hooked rig, it's easier to attach big weight on 2 hooked rig JMO

So you're the other person buying up all those swivels up at BPS! :D

For your AJ rig with the single circle hook and egg sinker do you set it up kinda like a carolina rig? I've seen the other type you've built but not this one.
