Costa Rica Fishing Report - Jan 2018

Costa Rica's peak billfish season is underway and we have some reports worth sharing. After back-to-back-to-back record breaking years from 2014 through 2016 last year was considered a bit of a down year. We're still only 7 weeks into this peak season but the marlin numbers have been as good as they've ever been. There are several sailfish around, though numbers usually start to peak in Feb-March. What's been a nice treat is all the yellow-fin tuna and dorado that are still being caught on a daily basis so most days anglers are getting their trophy billfish along with something for dinner. Some of our best reports are below:

Jan 1 - Geaux Fly - 4 sailfish and 4 dorado
Jan 2 - Constellation - 1 STRIPEY and 6/9 SAILS
Jan 4 - Sunny One - 5 sailfish and 2 dorado

do yall do any other types of fishing besides trolling? Bottomfishing for snapper, grouper, and popping for roosters?

Yes of course! That fishing post was strictly an offshore billfishing & tuna report, but we set up plenty of trips that involve absolutely ZERO trolling and instead focus on jigging, popping, and bottom fishing. That can be done in Costa Rica or Panama. Yellow-fin tuna season in Panama is coming up (March-Aug) and that's as good as it gets.

We actually have a group of 9 in country now doing soley inshore fishing, so once they leave on Tuesday I was going to post an inshore report too. In the meantime, here are some pics from our anglers last week...
