Another peak fishing season has begun in Costa Rica as the dry season weather and the incredible offshore fishing are back. The rainy season usually ends sometime in November and fortunately this year (just like last year) featured great weather, boatloads of mahi, and lots of marlin. Our 2019 fishing season started in epic fashion when our four-time repeat guests, the Weston's, kicked it off on Nov 1st by completing a Grand Slam with our buddy Captain Mike Alligood - 3 for 5 on blue marlin, 3 for 3 on striped marlin, 1 sailfish, and 9 mahi for dinner! Other highlights from November included the Super Fly releasing 5 blue marlin & 2 striped marlin on Nov 10, the 50′ Open Fly with 8 blue marlin on Nov 29th, and too many double digit mahi days to count from both Quepos and Los Suenos.

Once December gets here the dry season has settled in and the fishing typically reaches another level. That was definitely the case last month the marlin were still biting, big mahi were caught nearly every day, and best of all the sailfish have returned! The sailfish bite in the 2017 and 2018 seasons was uncharacteristically slow with most boats finishing with just 3-4 sailfish a day and very few reaching double digits. So far after the first month of the 2019 peak fishing season things are looking very promising for another epic year in Costa Rica as marlin were caught just about every day, sailfish numbers are back, and the yellow-fin tuna and dorado bite that has improved so much over the past couple of years remains steady. Below are some of the highlights from December 2018.
