We are talking about jigging a lot around world in recent years after Mr Mogi introduced Japanese style jigging in 1986/87. Not many fishermen living in Gulf of Mexico know about cod jigging, but cod jigging has been around for hundreds years. Still, there is no place in the world 30 - 40 fishermen jig together as cod party boats in New England. We think Japanese guys invented assist hooks, but cod fishermen in New England have been using assist hooks at least 50 years.

I arranged a cod jigging charter with 27 -30 fishermen on the 95' Walsh's on Tuesday and I am going to give full report when I come back from the trip.
It is common we fish in freezing weather and in rolling seas, but cod fishermen are really diehard fishermen. :)

It was a great trip by any standard. As our goal was to catch big cod, we accomplished what we wanted.
I let pictures show how our trip was. :)
We had 27 paid fishermen and I deducted $100 from $320 collected by two extra persons to contribute for fluke law suit in NY and the remaining $220 was used for pool. Capt Tim Tower won the pool and he generously gave the whole money to mates.

71 lbs cod by Capt Tim Tower and 62 lbs cod by Bob Nixon. the chance of catching over 70 lbs cod is harder than catching 150 lbs AJ.

I am sorry I couldn't invite you. There was one cancelation around 10:00 PM on Monday night, but I figured it was too late to contact you.

I'll admit, I don't know Diddle Squat about Cod fishing. A few questions:

    1) Is that 70 pounder a trophy size Cod?
    2) What depth of water were the Cod?
    3) Is there a legal minimum size on Cod, and is there a possession limit?
    4) How come no body is wearing shorts and T-shirts?
    5) Do they allow glass bottles on east coast boats?

    a 70-pounder is a monster now-a-days....ive never caught a 20 pounder.

when i have fished them its been from 120' - 400'. depends. kil will know more.

there is min and posession. i cant remember min but posession is 10 i think.

its like 10 degrees there, lol. its cold. i plan on seabassing a day or so in march/early april (Kil, i will let you know when i come them to see if we can go) and fully expect early april to be cold. 2 years ago we went for cod easter weekend. it was a high of 35.

they allow a lot of stuff, it all depends ;)
