CORPUS CHRISTI — The Coast Guard on Saturday continued to investigate what caused eight fishermen to be in the water after their boat started to sink late Friday about two miles east of the Port Aransas jetties.

At about 9:45 p.m., the crew of a 32-foot fishing boat, Los Almos, radioed that their boat was sinking, Coast Guard officials said.

A Coast Guard crew from Corpus Christi and a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Port Aransas responded to the call.

By the time crews arrived, the fishermen were in the water. The men were retrieved from the water and taken to Station Port Aransas, where they were met by family members.

There were no reported injuries.

On Thursday at about 5 p.m., the Coast Guard transported a crewman from a rig in the Mustang Island area to Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial after he had been crushed between two pipes.

The Coast Guard received a call from crew members of the Mustang Island 803 rig saying that a crewman had received serious injuries while working on board, Coast Guard officials said.

Officials at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi dispatched the HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew to help the injured man, who was taken to Memorial. Officials did not have the status of his condition on Saturday.
