I used to flyline a lot for Yellowtail, Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado, and Bluefin Tuna. My technique is keeping the rod horizontal with bell open after casting the bait out, once the fish takes the bait. I lift the rod up to the vertical position, and then drop it as fast as I can and close the bell. This way you'll be able to close the bell without any issue. Then I'll slowly extend my arms out as the fish takes up slack line and when the line is tight, I'll pull back to set the hook.
the one time I had to chunk with a spinner out of necessity, that is exactly how I made it work.
