CCA and Federal Snapper Regs

I have posted this thread on a couple of other sites similar to this one. The first site I posted it has had overwhelming support of my position and anger toward CCA. I have to honestly admit that I have not taken the time to fully read the rules for this site. With that said I want to apologize in advance if this offends anyone or if I have broken any rules. I just feel as if everyone needs to know where CCA stands and where your hard earned dollars are being spent. The thread is as follows.

I recently called CCA to voice my opposition on adopting federal regulations on state Red Snapper. I spoke with someone there named Pat Murray. He is the Vice President and Director of Conservation. He was very adamant about supporting the feds and would not budge.

I challenged him to come fish with me out of Sabine Pass and see how many Red Snapper we could catch. I told him he could pick any set of numbers I have for rocks, humps, wrecks, reefs, rigs etc. and we would fish them. I also stated that we could easily limit with four people on pretty much any given place, or just in a couple of places. He continually spouted bureaucratic BS and hoopla about the shortage of the stocks. I even mentioned to him that he sounded like one of those guys. He stood his ground.

I informed him that I would not take this lying down, nor would I just bend over and take it up the arse from CCA or the feds. I am personally not going to renew my membership, and I would hope that more 2 coolers will follow.

We need to make a stand on this issue or it will never cease. We as recreational fishermen ALWAYS have to bear the brunt of by catch and all other atrocities those commercial so and so's do. Let them clean up thier own mess for once.

If anyone wants to contact Pat Murray the number is (713)626-4234. He also gave me his e-mail address which is [email protected]. I have pasted the link to their site as well. I hope everyone that reads this floods his office with calls and e-mails.

Please let's show solidarity in this and try to salvage what we have instead of having to go backward again. I know there are folks on here that are going to say there is nothing we can do. Once they make up their mind it is a done deal. Well if we all take that attitude and just sit on our hands and do nothing then we are giving up and they win no matter what. I say we at least go down fighting. That way we can at least have the satisfaction of saying we tried instead of just giving up.

Snapdraggin .....

Most of the folks here also attend the 2cool board and have likely been following the threads on CCA there. I posted my displeasure with CCA on the corpusfishing.com site a yesterday and got some interesting and supportive PMs. Mostly from guides.

Hey Bobby, where is that thread? I will be more than happy to give them my opinion. I just went there and looked, but could not find it.

Thnaks for the info. I have created a profile there as well with the same handle. The more forums we get on and tell everyone what CCA is doing the better.
I'll be honest, I don't know anyone that is a member of CCA anymore. Most of my fishing friends stopped supporting them when they turned from GCCA to CCA. It's all about money. I quit when I saw all the money going to the board of directors for so called "Overhead". Did you ever notice when you went to a banquet that the big raffle always went to a board member. Not once, but every single time.

I think anyone entering their fishing tournament is a sucker. They think they are going to win a boat or truck that CCA got donated for free. Your odds of winning are about the same as catching a 400 pound YF in the GOM. Isn't life great.

I feel really bad now as I kept buying GCCA and CCA prints from Collector's Covey for 250 buck's each. I was giving money to those greedy people. I had a numbered set which I finally stopped. They are now in a storage area wall.

Just think of CCA as a charity. You are on the board. You and your buddies on the board can suck in a nice income form people that believe they are sending you their hard earned money for a good cause. Trace the money trail. Where is it going? It's politics folks. Steal as much as you can while your in office. And while your at it, sucker these fools into a tournament. They think they are going to win a boat or truck that you got donated for free. Isn't life great.

Hey Mr Bill I am sure your thoughts and insight would be greatly appreciated on the 2cool site as well. Please go check it out.

I'm not a member of that site. When I went to sign up about a year ago, the disclaimer said something about paying the owner of the site 250 grand for one reason or another if you messed up. I didn't agree to the disclaimer. Agreeing to a disclaimer is a legal signing. I read everything before signing. .:)
soon to come "NO FISHING ZONES" ......YIKES!!!!
I agree totally. If we don't voice our opposition to the proposed snapper regs then we'll have no one to blame but ourselves when they keep tightening up limits until you won't be able to keep any snapper anymore. Just look what has happened with reds and specks.

We all know, just as the government does that commercial fishers catch and kill infinitely more game fish than recreational anglers ever will. Still they do little to reign in the big commercial boats because it is far easier to look like they are doing something constructive when they put the screws to the little guys. You know, the guys like you and me that spend many millions of dollars every year on boats, tackle, marinas, fuel, bait, licenses, taxes, etc -- a hellava lot of which goes to the same government agencies that make it harder and harder to fish and hunt.

So it is every fisherman's duty to say that we demand to right to continue fishing without a constant stream of newer restrictive regulations on us when the real culprits, the ones that cause infinitely more harm to fish stocks are allowed to keep doing what they have done for decades.

Please make the call. It really does matter!
