Need Advice, ive picked up a new Okuma PCH Custom roller rod 6' 10" , the first roller is 3 tier, I've put my 30 international on here for now till the Makaira 20ll SEa gets here. The line coming off the reel is at less of a angle is running under the top roller, am I doing this right or should I run it under the second roller from top. I haven't had one of these since my very first saltwater rod in the 80's which was about a 4lb Penn roller rod but it didn't have the 3 tier first roller.

Ok, I haven't been able to find a three tier roller set up, but these couple of videos have double rollers and if I'm understanding correctly, they are saying to run the line between the two rollers and it seems they are going under the first one and over the second. So, if that is the case on a three roller set up would it be under the first, over the second and under the third?

As Gonefishings said, Game Face Is On!

Definitely got Game Face on, have been in a mad scramble the last two afternoons, trying to make sure everything is in check, some touch up oiling, setting drags, even a late delivery today of some top shot material, plus a squidtrex.

Cause in the end, this is what its all about and why we do this. I'll share a photo of a sweet Yellowfin caught our last trip by a truly great friend ive come to know over the past year fishing the Capt. John. Ive been fortunate enough to make some really great friends in this, and im thankful.
This Yellowfin below was caught on our last trip by a remarkable fisherman, who the trip before that had hooked into 4 Yellowfins and come up short on all 4. But this was redemption, and it couldn't of happen to a better fisherman. Just a absolutely beautiful Yellowfin.

For some of us this is the only prize.....
I completely agree more with you on this because at the end of the day it about having fun, making friends, and becoming a better fisherman. We all have all are days but landing a tuna is the cherry on top.

Cheers to the memories we can talk about for our next tuna trip!!

Great report. I had one trip out of 6 that I didn't catch a yellowfin to bring home as well so I feel your pain. I'm thinking of adding some smaller baits for when they are eating glass minnows. Did you get to see what size the glass minnows were that the tuna were eating?

While at the floater during the night had noticed a little ball of what I assume to be glass minnows along side the boat under the lights. They looked to be about a inch maybe a little more. While talking to Gonefishings later on he said they cut into some stomachs to check and said they was full of glass minnows. I asked him was they about like this, holding my fingers to show a inch maybe a little more, he replied yes. They are small no doubt....

Well, after two days of cleaning fish, gear, clothes, the truck, basically everything that touched this trip I am done. Hallelujah!! I really don't have much to add, PK's report was pretty solid as to what went down. And thanks to him for the shout out on my kid scoring a nice tuna. He does seem to consistently out fish me and I am damn sure ok with that.

As PK said, day one bottom fishing was slowish. I tried my squidtrex after putting a few beeliners on the stringer but was not having much luck and tangled a few times I'm thinking because it was lighter than the bank weights we were using plus it seems to have great swimming action so it may have stalled on the decent a bit. So I went back to squid and put a few more in the boat, but yeah, all in all, first day was slow for us although I did see some stringers that looked pretty damn good.

Night fishing was TOUGH. A total grind from the get go. However, as soon as we got to the first rig, Hunter came over and said there were some guys casting diamond jigs like a Halco off the starboard stern corner and hooking up with yellow fin straight away. Within maybe 10 - 20 minutes he said four were hooked and one landed. That seemed to be a recurring theme through the night with the biggest being about 80 lbs. I started throwing a diamond jig later in the night just out of boredom but no luck. But mine was a 12 ounce and those guys were throwing 6 ounce. They stayed busier than most anyone else as far as I could tell, landing a few blackfins too. To me that all makes sense considering the whole glass minnows thing going on right now, I'm guessing small diamond jigs look close enough to glass minnows for tuna to hit it. Might be worth grabbing a few for you guys going out this month.

Other than my kid's tuna, he and I didn't catch anything the rest of the night. We had three more strikes, one being a tuna smashing our chunk and going completely airborne which was incredible to see but all three strikes bit through the leader. We half heartedly tried to jig for blackfin on and off through the night but the current was such that we just didn't fight it. He and I both agree the blackfin bite has been way off the last several trips. PK correct me if I am wrong but I only saw two baskets of blackies when we got back? And cudos to those guys that caught some blackies, they totally worked for them.

Sunday of course was beautiful, slight winds, low seas, easy current. Fished three (I think) bottom spots and each spot was good for about 20 minutes pulling in nice sized beeliners then the ARS would get thick and we'd move. Thanks to Gonefishings for throwing a few beeliners our way as he hit is limit and we ended up with just under forty.

As always, regardless of everything it's awesome being out there period. Fishing with old friends and meeting/making new friends is always great. We're fortunate enough to even get to go so can't really find fault after that. Now counting down the days until April 13...

I never really looked at the trip total hanging up, I gave away my Beeliners as I caught them, Jill didn't like it when I threw the first Almaco back in the water. Was forced to keep the second one caught but told a guy he could have it, we can't keep Red Snapper right now, I didn't catch a Yellowfin, so I loaded and bolted once at the dock.

All you missed at the dock was butchering going on in the parking lot, tourists thinking we were a fish market and wanting to buy fish but didn't have coolers or much cash (WTF?!?), people wanting to buy shrimp, and best of all me trying to weigh that tuna and the hook slipping out resulting in me punching myself square in the lip and jaw. Then I tried it twice more. Luckily someone had the idea to wrap a ratchet strap around the tail and hook into that which was the winner. This of course was after advice flying at me from every direction. Hook it into the zip tie that has the number on it. Snap. Hook under the stringer string, it's two hundred pound test. Snap. Hook into the OTHER zip tie in its mouth. Snap. Hook it under the chin up to his bottom lip. Slip and punch.

Good times, good times.
