Birthday Fishing Report 8/31 Freeport

Well I got a call from BPitcher on Thurdsay saying he had a couple of spots open for Friday and wanted to know if I was interested. I called Momma and got a pass for me and my daughter Samantha who turned 13 yesterday. We met Brad at Buckee's at 5:45am and went to Bridge Bait to launch. We had trouble getting his engine on the 17' Scout started but after about 45 min and a couple of times pulling out of the slip to keep the lines from backing up God answered our prayers to let Samantha have a memorable Birthday!

We detoured some to avoid the TStorms and started trolling on the way to the snapper spots. We put out a Grandad' King Buster, a proto-type chrome tuna plug, and one of the new Grandad's Hoo Jets. Before I could even get the Hoo Jet in the water Samantha is pulling in a 4lb bonita (snapper bait!). 5 min later I see a 25# king go airborne after the tuna plug but he missed the hook . Drag briefly pulled on the King Buster but somehow missed the hook. I pulled it in for inspection and IMMEDIATELY removed the stink'n hook protectors (I hate it when that happens). We pull past several schools of birds working but no hits.

About 9:30 the storms cleared over our snapper spots so off we go! We get to the snapper #'s and make a drop. Samantha gets a double of shorty's to start things off then starts bringing in what turned out to be both her and my snapper limit! Every time I was unhooking her shorty's I gave her my rod and within seconds she had another keeper We moved to a second spot and finished the boat limit of snaps and Brad pulled in a nice Mangrove and BIG trigger.

We headed in at 1:00 and stopped over the middle grounds to get Samantha a king but ended up with 2 BIG Spanish Macks on the silver/black Hoo Jet. We forgot the camera but will post pics of the catch.

Samantha told both me and Brad it was her best birthday present EVER and certainly one she will remember.
